The pistol had been used by Deputy Sheriff Earl "Dutch" Dutch Schultz during his time as leader of Alcatraz prison's Gangster Squad and it was believed that Dutch kept this firearm locked up safe from seizure during his incarceration! The weapon was later displayed at SFMOMA for several months before being transferred back to Santa Clara where it is currently housed alongside other firearms donations from across Northern California over the years including handguns, rifles and shotguns!
