The Santa Clarita Valley Air National Guard detachment has a rich air force deployment gift history. The unit was activated on September 9, 1944 as the 219th Bombardment Wing. The wing was redesignated the 211th Bombardment Wing and again activated as the 191st Bombardment Wing on December 12, 1948. The 191st Bombardment Wing took over responsibility for the Alameda County Airport from the San Francisco Municipal Aviation Authority in 1949 and became operational with Boeing B-29 Superfortress bombers. On May 10, 1951, the wing began operations of Lockheed C-119 Flying Boxcars which were used to transport bombloads of mail from Menlo Park to Oakland International Airport. These planes had a capacity of 25 passengers per trip and were operated until 1957 when they were replaced by Douglas DC-4s which could carry up to 80 passengers per trip. In 1957, California Governor Goodwin Coleman announced that he would not seek reelection in 1960 andTherefore George H.W. Bush was elected Governor of California instead and it was decided that activation of the 191st Bomber Wing would be discontinued effective September 1, 1958 due to budgetary constraints within the military budget. However, this decision was reversed by Bush upon his inauguration on November 3rd andactivation continued through January 6th 1959 under newly designated as wings 210th Bomber Wing (Special Operations) at El Centro AFB in Imperial County CA and then on February 17th 19511when 210th moved its headquarters from Imperial County to Fresno CA - becoming one of only two fighter wings in th United States Army with such designation On July 15 1961 Lt Colonel Don Christensen became Commanding General of all USAF units located outside Washington D C when President John F Kennedy ordered all USAF units subordinated under Headquarters U S Air Force to be consolidated into one command structure called Deputy Commander Aircraft Activities Western Pacific Area headquartered at Hickam AFB HI - creating an air arm presence in Japan after years Of being divided among commands

The Santa Clarita Valley Air National Guard has been deploying gifts to troops and families since the 1940s. The gift history of the Santa Clarita Valley Air National Guard can be traced back to 1944 when the group was organized as the 1st Bombardment Group, California Army National Guard. The unit served in World War II and during the Korean War. In 1951, the 1st Bombardment Group was redesignated as Headquarters Squadron One Hundred Seventy-Sixth Fighter Wing, California ANG. In 1969, Headquarters Squadron One Hundred Seventy-Seventh Fighter Wing was disbanded and its assets were combined with those of Headquarters Squadron Five Hundred Eighty-Third Fighter Wing to form headquarters squadron one thousand six hundred fifty-seventh fighter wing (HC1) at Santa Clarita. In 1990, HC1 became an independent unit and continued to deploy gifts until 2002 when it merged into headquarters squadron one thousand nine hundred ninety-eighth fighter wing (HC9). On July 1, 2018, HC9 transitioned from flying propeller aircraft to jets and began deploying gifts using C-130 Hercules transports.

Santa Clarita is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 61,451 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Los Angeles County. The city is located on the eastern edge of Ventura County and it straddles both Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The history of Santa Clarita dates back to 1874 when Freeport Rancho de la Paloma was sold by Antonio Lopez to David Bancroft and Arthur Young. The town was founded as an agricultural community on October 15, 1874 by Captain James Fenton with eighty-six people under his command. In 1916, the Southern Pacific Railway built a line through Santa Clarita from Oxnard to Sylmar; this railway changed Santa Clarita's name to "Santa Clarita" on October 1, 1916. In 1951, area residents voted to incorporate as a city; this move allowed for more control over local government and development than had been available before. On October 1, 1957 the City Council named Raymond Jaffe Chairman of the Planning Commission; he would later serve as Mayor from 1983 until his death in 1987. On November 5th 1978 voters passed Proposition 13 (the "Citizens' Initiative Act"), which repealed all but one term of then-Mayor Raymond Jaffe's four year term effective December 6th 1978. This law ushered in a new era where elected officials were held accountable to citizens rather than political donors or special interest groups who controlled their policies and decisions. From its early days as an agricultural community rich in water resources that could be used for irrigation purposes (a trait shared by other nearby settlements such as Carpinteria), Santa Clarita progressed through several phases of growth: becoming an industrial center during World War II due to its proximity to munitions factories.; increasing residential density following World War II because production moved out of munitions plants.; A period characterized by continued growth during the 1960s and 1970s attributable largely to two factors: population growth within short distance commuting distance of major employment centers; and activity generated by numerous civic organizations including Recreation & Parks District, Boys & Girls Club/Central Park Committee and Sierra Club/Pacific Coast Regional Office
The Santa Clarita Valley is a valley located in the southern half of Los Angeles County, California. The name comes from the Spanish words "santa" (holy) and "clara" (light). The valley was first populated by Native Americans, who called it San Gabriel Valley. In 1848, prospectors discovered gold in the area, and a group of settlers traveled to find it. They named the valley after Saint Clare of Assisi, which led to more settlers coming to hunt for gold in the area. By 1860, there were over 100 people living in the Santa Clarita Valley. In 1863, a railroad was built through the valley and began transporting goods and people between Los Angeles and nearby cities. By 1868, several mills had been built in the Santa Clarita Valley and began producing flour, cottonseed oil, lumber, cheese, eggs and other goods. The population grew rapidly during this time and by 1880 there were over 1,000 people living in the Santa Clarita Valley.
