The United States Army has a long and proud history in Santa Clarita. The first American military base in the area was Fort Stockton, which opened in 1846. The soldiers who founded the fort were part of the Mexican-American War, and they were commanded by General John C. Fremont. In 1853, the United States acquired Rancho San Diego de los Angeles from Mexico and began to lease it to civilian farmers for use as a military post. In 1862, General George Buell attacked Los Angeles from the north and destroyed much of its infrastructure including the white cotton mills that had been operating there since 1848. The army moved into downtown Los Angeles to take over command of what had become a city under siege. When Buell arrived, he found that most of his troops couldn’t even enter downtown because there was no way to get them acrossskinny bridge over Harbor Bridge No. 5 because it was guarded by Ulysses S Grant’s forces! Santa Clarita became an important garrison town during World War II as part of Station 41 on Catalina Island (then known as Topanga Canyon). After Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941, American forces responded with Operation Halyard which resulted in more than 1,000 Japanese casualties at Santa Clarita Beach between December 8th and 12th 1941 alone! As result of this conflict, many local residents served their country through active duty or volunteerism during World War II; some are still living today as veterans or members of military families within our community!

The Santa Clarita Valley has been a major center of the U.S. military for over two centuries, and the Army's 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment is responsible for much of that history. The regiment was formed in 1846 as part of California's Gateway Infantry Regiment and participated in several Mexican-American Wars before being mustered into the Union army in 1868. In 1863, the battalion was sent to fight at Chickamauga where it earned a reputation for its fighting skills. Afterward, it fought in the Battle of Gettysburg and other engagements during the American Civil War. In 1881, the brigade was disbanded but its members were reorganized as the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment under command of Major General John J. Pershing II. The battalion served with distinction during World War I and World War II before being disbanded again in 1946. Today, many of those veterans still live among them in rural Santa Clarita Valley communities like Walnut Creek and Tripple Hills.
The town of Santa Clarita, California is located in the San Gabriel Valley region of Southern California. The population was estimated at 17,500 as of 2010. It is a small community located on the edge of the Angeles National Forest and adjacent to Interstate 5. Santa Clarita’s economy is based on agriculture, ranching, and manufacturing. Santa Clarita began as an agricultural community with land that has been in the family for generations. Today, Santa Clarita's economy revolves around four main sectors: agriculture; ranching; manufacturing; and tourism. Agriculture accounts for 78% of Santa Clarita's GDP and employs over 60% of its workforce. Ranching provides employment for nearly 30% of the town's workforce while Manufacturing creates jobs for 10%. Tourist attractions in nearby Los Angeles provide significant economic stimulus to Santa Clarita and its surrounding area. In fact, since 2000, tourists have spent $2 billion within commuting distance of downtown Los Angeles alone! Santa Clarita’s history dates back to 1853 when Benjamin Goodyear founded Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in this area. The company became one of the largest tire companies in the world with operations throughout North America and Europe. Goodyear continues to be a major player today with operations in more than 100 countries around the world. In 1925, James Worthy founded Worthy-Miller Motors Company here at what is now known as 95th Avenue East near I-5 southbound exit 7A (now Wilson Boulevard). This company manufactured luxury cars including Rolls Royce models prior to World War II when production shifted to Germany due to conflict over resources in Asia. After World War II ended, production returned to America at Worthy-Miller Motors Company where it continued until 1969 when it merged into Chrysler Corporation’s Plymouth Division under then CEO Walter Pincus (now Chairman/CEO). At Worthy-Miller Motors Corporation level there were three factories: Factory A which produced coupés starting in 1936; Factory B which produced sports cars starting in 1938; and Factory C which produced sedans starting in 1948 followed by light trucks beginning in 1951 before becoming a factory again from 1957 until 1978 called New Holland Automotive Sales Corporation (NHASC) which produced van models only before being combined with other divisions within Chrysler Corporation including Dodge Jeep & Ram truck divisions eventually becoming US Car Corp!. Santa Clarita is a small town in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 27,564 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Santa Monica Peninsula and shares borders with Venice to the south, Malibu to the west, and Agoura Hills to the north. The name "Santa Clarita" comes from Spanish meaning "nativity." The first European to see Santa Clarita was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on July 8, 1542 during his ship La Navidad anchored in what is now called Point Mugu. He named it San Salvador because he thought its location would make it attractive to Christian pilgrims who were visiting Mexico City then. When Europeans began moving into this area they started Ruskin's Rancho Topanga which extended from present-day Acton Heights eastward for about three miles (4 km). In 1871 John Cockerill bought land that extended down into what is now known as West Hollywood and built a house there called The Oaks. He called it "The Hacienda de las Olas". In 1905 Jules Lefebvre bought some of Cockerill's land and developed it into an agricultural community known as Arroyo Seco which became one of the most important citrusgrowing areas in Southern California. However, when World War I erupted Lefebvre sold his share of Arroyo Seco to George Backus in 1918 for $2 million dollars ($ today). backus had come from Illinois where he was a millionaire banker and rancher who had acquired large holdings in cattle and other interests before entering politics. He decided that Orange County should be divided among his friends so that they could have more control over transportation hereabouts since much of Central California was still out of their reach during those days.
