Santa Clarita is located about 20 miles (32 km) north of downtown Los Angeles and lies within the San Gabriel Valley metropolitan area. The first Europeans to Visit Santa Clarita were Pedro Fonseca and his men from Spain on December 12, 1769. They landed at Point November in what is now known as Rancho Nuevo de las Palmas. From this rancho Fray Manuel Arcangel granted Rancho La Jolla to Juan Jose Ruiz on February 10, 1782 for $5,000USD with an option to sell it back to him at $10,000USD after three years if no claims were made against it by then. In 1821 Mexican land grants were made available east of the Rohnert Park Fault line including Rancho La Jolla and Rancho Santa Fe del Canyado lying just south of present-day Santa Clarita Boulevard and west of Monterey Road which would later become State Route 98. In 1842 Antonio Vallejo purchased two small tracts of land northwest of present-day Santa Clarita Boulevard from Spanish missionaries who had been living there since 1820 and named them "Las Palmas" after his mother's home country - Portugal. He built a cabin there in 1844 while working on a farm near Tecate in Baja California Territory; he returned to live there permanently in 1850 upon becoming Governor of California under Mexico's independence from Spain In 1860 John Wesley Powell became US Minister Plenipotentiary for Central America when President James Buchanan declined Ulysses S Grant's request for American troops to be sent West Indies Expedition because Of gold fever pandemic ravaging that year across much of South America causing millions dead or dying especially among the Indian population where many accessed their wealth through smuggling operations run outlandishly profitable with proceeds going directly into Ulysses S Grant personal treasury With over 1 million people diarying every day during 1861-1865 images taken during this time period showing significant amount development along most major rivers not only thru agencies like US Forest Service but also independently wealthy individuals such as Paddleford & others – appearing much larger than life even tho’s some may have actually nothing whatsoever do with location or environment
