There she continued selling naval memorabilia until she sold her business in 1976 to Mr.. Michael Sauer who operated it until 1984 when it was bought by Bob Doherty who kept it until 1992 when it passed into the hands of his daughter Donna Doherty Kappes who operates it currently under the name "Navy Pier Gifts Inc." In 1942 while serving aboard USS Enterprise (CV-6), Lieutenant Commander John Atherton RummelfELD Jr., along with other members of the ship's crew received a gift from Rear Admiral Chester Nimitz - two sets of war medals inscribed with “For America” (one silver case with enameled finish) and “With best wishes / Your Excellency” They are still on display today at Evergreen Naval Museum located inside City Hall Plaza complex off 2nd St./Alameda Ave.. These medals were made during World War II as part of USS Enterprise`s campaign chest which also included service ribbons tied around each medal shaft making them highly collectible among today`s sailors/Marines alike!
