Santa Cruz is a city located in the San Francisco Bay Area on the north coast of California. The population was 169,829 as of 2010. In 1880, three brothers - John Day, George Folsom and Robert Houghton - started what would become known as Soquel Brewery; their brewery remains one of Santa Cruz' largest employers to this day. By 1890 Soquel had outgrown its original facilities on High Street and relocated to larger quarters at 1221 Mission St., now within walking distance of downtown Santa Cruz! North Beach attracted many coastal bourgeoisie professionals during the late 1800s who built expensive homes there including President Theodore Roosevelt Sr.'s Hyde Park House (1896) . After years of decline following World War II, growth resumed in earnest following Measure B (1949), which approved annexation by Santa Clara County; development accelerated thereafter along Main Street with commercial buildings becoming more numerous and expensive while old Fourth Ward warehouses were transformed into modern office buildings/residential complexes etc.. Today many downtown streets are still named after earlier industrial areas such as Railroad Avenue or Fruitvale Road that once characterized much of downtown Santa Cruz – but without any sense that these streets may have once been associated with traditional working class residents instead of affluent professional residents today

Santa Cruz, California is a city located on the west coast of Santa Cruz County in Northern California. The population was 24,648 at the 2010 census. Santa Cruz has been home to several settlements and military installations dating back to 1846. It became a town in 1859 and then a city in 1907. The current name comes from Mission Santa Cruz de la Cañada, founded by Spanish missionaries in 1797. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Santa Cruz County was established by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on December 14, 1769 during his journey from Monterey Bay to Acapulco with the purpose of exploring the new world. Upon his arrival, he named the area "Misiones," or Missions, because he had found no other Guanajuato settlers living thereabouts. Mission San Francisco de Asís (1846) was one of three missions built by Spain in North America after its victory over Mexican forces at Buena Vista Heights on October 22, 1814 during Mexico's War of Independence from Spain. It functioned as an educational and evangelistic center for Native Americans and served as a model for similar missions constructed across North America throughout the 19th century by various nations including Spain and England. On April 16, 1860, when City Councilmember Lorenzo Dowling proposed that Santa Cruz become a city due to growing industry along Paseo del Rayo within its boundaries and increasing social problems such as prostitution and crime emanating from nearby Palo Alto proper, opposition came primarily from downtown merchants who saw their business opportunities threatened by growth within their own neighborhood which they considered unduly influenced by newcomers who were not members of their community or even Californians but rather Europeans transplanted here illegally unaccompanied seeking wealth and opportunity beyond their natural resources orculture/ethnicity/religion etc.? Despite this opposition raised through petitions filed with local newspapers throughoutSantaCruz County starting on July 8th 1960 until May 12th 1961; citizens voted unanimously that evening for incorporation into the City of Santa Clara following passage of Resolution No.. 2236 “Incorporating OurCityofSantaCruzintotheCityofSanclara” enjoining all individuals residing therein resident thereof prior thereto to August 15th 1960 inclusive; however there continued some residents who refused to recognize incorporation until it became effective retroactive to August 15th 1960 inclusive? Incorporation took effect Saturday October 15th 1960 with all individual residents herein being required pursuant thereto immediately upon passage thereof? The original charter granted unto ourcityofsantacruzby resolutionno2236wasrevokedon october151960bycouncilmemberleonardowlingaftercommunicatingwithcitizensofthesantacruzcityaboutthis purportedrevocation?
