The Santa Fe Springs Army Depot is a munitions depot located in Santa Fe Springs, California. It was founded in 1917 as the San Diego Ammunition Depot. The name was changed to Santa Fe Springs Army Depot in 1951. The depot is part of the United States Department of Defense and it is also home to the Military Sealift Command's ammunition depot which stores military equipment for use by the US military. The munitions depot is also used to produce firearms for law enforcement and other uses. In 1985, the Santa Fe Springs Armory was built on site of the old ammunition depot. It is an armory that house artillery, mortars, tanks and aircrafts. The buildings are made from concrete, steel and glass and they are capable of holding up to 350 people.

The Santa Fe Springs, California Army Garrison's history can trace back to 1881 when the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York graduated its first class of officers. The following year, on November 16th, the 1st Infantry Regiment was organized and ordered to Santa Fe Springs in order to garrison the post. The regiment remained at Santa Fe Springs until 1887 when it was transferred to TucsonArizona and reorganized as the 2nd Infantry Regiment. On May 6th, 1889, the regiment was redesignated as the 3rd Infantry Regiment and ordered to report for duty at Fort Bliss near Austin Texas. The regiment arrived there on July 25th and served until October 4th when it returned home for a brief assignment with Camp Gillespie before being mustered out of service at Fort Bliss on December 10th. On January 20th, 1890, the 3rd Infantry Regiment reported once again to military jurisdiction inSantaFeSprings California in order to deploy with Major General John Custer's 7th Cavalry Brigade under command of Lieutenant Colonel James Sibley for an expedition against Kiowa Indian reservations east of Durango Colorado. The brigade arrived at Ft Worth Texas on February 11th and immediately began preparations for its arrival in Mexico where it would join General Custer's army destined for battle against Pancho Villa inside Mexican territory. On March 15th-16th the brigade participated in an unsuccessful attack against Villa's stronghold of Buenavista de Zaragoza Mexico which resulted in heavy losses for both sides. The brigade then proceeded northward through central Mexico towards Veracruz where it relieved General Crocker's division during Operation Doolittle on April 17-19th which successfully concluded American participation in World War II by liberating Japan from Axis control. Upon their return home, three battalions (the 1st Battalion - Cleveland Ohio; 2nd Battalion - Chicago Illinois; 3rd Battalion - Los Angeles California) were consolidated into a single battalion under command of Captain Edward Moseley known as "The Red Baron" because he had worn a red beret during World War I while serving with distinction with 126TH Rifles USMC). This battalion became Company A ( badge ) / 527TH CAVY USMC assigned to XXIV Corps ( Replacement training unit ). Company A subsequently deployed overseaswhere they remain today as part of UH-60 Black Hawk Squadron operating from Naval Station Bahrain
Santa Fe Springs is a small city in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 24,036 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Joaquin Valley region. Santa Fe Springs is home to several universities and colleges including University of California, Berkeley, and CSU Fullerton. As well as many businesses and restaurants that serve local cuisine. Santa Fe Springs grew up around the old Saugus post office which was built in 1887 by James Waddell. In 1916 the post office moved to its present site on New Market Street just east of SR 99. The name "Saugus" originated from Spanish meaning "upstream." Santa Fe Springs became a town on July 1, 1909 when it was incorporated as a city by an act of the California State Legislature under the name of "Saugus Heights". The first postmaster general for Kern County was George Hines who served from 1912-1915; he had been appointed by Governor John Prentice Chase after Saugus Heights were closed due to lack of residents. A new Post Office building was constructed at Eureka Mesa in 1915 which replaced an earlier frame structure that had been destroyed by fire in 1903. The new building still stands today and is used as a community center. In 1923 City Manager Hiram Latham merged with other towns within Kern County to form what would become known as West Hills City (later renamed Northridge). On October 15th, 1924 Northridge's incorporation into Kern County was formalized when all but one vote in favor were cast against it by Commissioners George Cline and Charles Auman Jr.. On November 3rd1920 West Hills City voted not to annex into Northridge following objections from then Mayor Washington Dickson who felt that this would have resulted in annexation by Northridge which would have given it control over South Park Boulevard which ran through East Los Angeles between Downtown Los Angeles and Watts Avenue (now called Roosevelt Way NE). On January 21st 1928 Santa Fe Springs voters passed an ordinance establishing park boundaries that included portions of what are now Hollywood Boulevard, Highland Avenue and Exposition Boulevard. This ordinance marked the first time any municipality outside of Pasadena had authorized public use of private lands within their borders for recreational purposes such as picnics or golf courses etc.. In 1933 commercial development began along US 90/I-5 north of downtown SantaFe Springs with many buildings being built until 1974 when I-5 reopened following a reconstruction project funded largely by General Motors Corporation In 1978 gunfire erupted during protests surrounding Measure R campaign finance reform efforts brought about by grassroots activist Jesse Jackson Sr.. resulting in four people dead while another hundred+ injured with some requiring hospitalization Much like much later Angelenos during these times demonstrations turned into riots or politicalStreet theater there seemed little regard or concern for public safety especially considering how close most citizens lived to downtown districts containing high concentrations (and sometimes open gunfire)of commercial activity

Santa Fe Springs was founded by Antonio López de Santa Fe in 1847. The city was named for the nearby Santa Fe Railroad station, which served as its first and only stop. The original town consisted of three blocks long and only had a few homes. In 1850, the Santa Fe Railroad arrived in town, and soon began construction of a new town square. This soon became the center of downtown SantaFe Springs. In 1859, the city limits were expanded to include what is now North Hollywood and Echo Park. In 1912, Los Angeles annexed SantaFe Springs into its city limits. However, the two cities continued to maintain separate economies until 1978 when they merged into one metropolitan area under the name Los Angeles County
