The Santa Fe Springs Coast Guard Station was one of the first stations manned by the Coast Guard in California. The station was established on October 1, 1905 and initially served as a coastal guard detachment for the City of Santa Fe. In 1912, the Coast Guard Station became an operational station and began to provide security for the local port. In 1916, the Coast Guard Station moved to its present location within the city limits. The coast guard station has been continuously manned since 1959 and currently provides service to both civilian and military passengers through their helicopter services and boat patrols. The Coast Guard also offers educational opportunities to students from throughout Northern California through their courses offered at nearby beaches including Point Conception Naval Shipyard, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Isla Vista Naval Air Station. Today, the Santa Fe Springs Coast Guard Station is home to a variety of programs that help protect our coastline including: water patrol; maritime security; search & rescue; law enforcement; public education; weather permitting; and more.

The Santa Fe Springs community began as a small Spanish settlement in 1871 on the banks of the Santa Fe River. The town was founded by José María Cisneros and his wife, Hilda, who purchased land from the Mexican government. In 1912, the city of Pasadena was established nearby and annexed into Santa Fe Springs. In 1923, the United States Postal Service introduced a new post office inSantaFe Springs which later became known as "The Post Office at Santa Fe". The building still stands today and is used for storage. In 1969, SantaFe Springs became an incorporated city. The City Council Chambers are located inside the old post office building. It is currently home to several businesses including ABC Radio Network's KABC-AM 1170 kHz transmitter and various other types of antennas including a 480 MHz repeater for CW operation (CW being one of the oldest amateur radio services) which is also used for air traffic control purposes by Valley Air Traffic Control District #1 (VATS). In 1984, local entrepreneur Donny Schaffer opened what would become one of Northern California's most successful fast food restaurants - Denny's restaurant chain - with locations throughout Southern California. Today, Denny's restaurant has over thirty-five locations across North America with more than two million guests each month. Denny's also provides nightlife programming through its subsidiary DNA nightclubs across North America which feature popular DJs like Janet Jackson and DMX during late night sessions that can last up to three hours!
