The store was started by two German immigrants, Emil and Anna Kappler, in 1892. They sold coffee beans and used their proceeds to support the local church. It was reopened as Coffee House Cafe by friends of the original owners, who continue to offer food and drinks from this business today. In 1957, Anita & Edwin Wehner opened their own coffee shop called The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf on West Broadway in Santa Fe Springs. This business enjoyed strong popularity for over thirty years before it closed its doors in 2006. In 2007, Thornton’s Cafeteria added espresso machines to its menu which began serving espresso drinks at 7am each morning (closed at 10pm). In 2013, Thornton’s Café reopened under new management with a new focus on healthier options such as sandwiches and salads. Santa Fe Springs, California is an enclave in San Bernardino County, California. It is located on the border of both Riverside and Rancho Cucamonga counties. The population was 33,471 at the 2010 census. Santa Fe Springs is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area and is one of the most ethnically diverse places in Southern California. The town was founded by Mormons in 1876 as a ranching community named for their transit stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route from Nauvoo to Salt Lake City. In 1924, when parts of southern San Bernardino County were annexed into Riverside County, Santa Fe Springs became part of that new county. The town has experienced modest growth over its history; it has had a population of around 20 people only once since 1950. However, recent years have seen an influx of immigrants from East Asia and Latin America who have drawn attention to the town's art scene and cultural attractions. In 1935, Dutch trading company Waren BV began producing roasted Javas using whole bean coffees from various origins including Arabic grounds (Javanese), Ethiopian ground (Ethiopian), Sumatra Sulawesi (Sulawesi island), Philippine Sea Islands (Philippine-owned islands), Indian Oceanashkeen/Bengalveen mix (indigenous black pepper) from India, Indonesian green tea leaves from Bali (Indonesia), English Breakfast blend from United Kingdom sources including Specialty Tea Rooms at JFK airport Newark Airport (USA) In 1983 Starbucks Corporation took over all rights to roast Kopecks which had been produced by Dutch traders since before Starbucks opened its doors in Seattle Washington State on January 20th 1977
