Santa Fe Springs is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 26,651 at the 2010 census. Santa Fe Springs is located on the eastern edge of the San Gabriel Mountains and on the border of Victorville and Simi Valley. The first people to live in what is now SantaFe Springs were Ohlone Indians who hunted and gathered plants and fruit in the area around what is now downtown Santa Fe Springs. In 1876, General Hernando Cárdenas used this spot as his encampment during his march across southern California against Mexican forces. On July 4th of that year CE, General Cárdenas's army camped at present-day Lomas de Santa Fe (High Hill) while they prepared for their next engagement with Mexico. A post office called "Mendoza" was established in 1879, but it was discontinued in 1886 because of mail being delivered to Los Angeles instead. A new post office called "Santa Fe" was established on December 15th of that year by Benjamin Banneker with a mailing address of 318 West Second Street. The name may be from Spanish meaning "holy place." It seems likely that when Banneker received word that an annual fair would be held at Chino Hills east of LA he decided to move his company headquarters there too so as not to miss out on any profits! The fair took place every November until 1907 when it moved to Pomona due to fire marshal regulations prohibiting outdoor fires incitements near schools! In 1912 Citizens’ Park opened adjacent to Pershing Drive which became known as "The green ogre". It had no water or sewer service but drew allotment from residents for its fountains and games such as dodgeball and checkers etc., until 1955 when City lights turn off at night which caused ice rinks filled with watermobiles/canoes being towed into & out of park after dark! In 1959 Northridge annexed las aguas del norte making SantafeSprings unincorporated again???
