Santa Fe Springs is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. Santa Fe Springs has been home to humans and their animals for over 10,000 years. The first known European settler in the area was Juan Bautista de Anza who arrived on Padres Ship "Acuña" in 1776. The Mission San Francisco de Asís was founded in 1789 by Father Junípero Serra and built on land that later became Santa Fe Springs. In 1847,Agustín Castro moved his rancho (now part of Southern California's Angeles National Forest) from Sonoma County to what is now Santa Fe Springs. In 1893, after General Pershing ordered all American forces out of Mexico City, Santa Fe Springs became part of the newly created U.S. state of Arizona under President Grover Cleveland as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which ended the Mexican-American War. After World War II Santa Fe Springs grew rapidly due to its location near Los Angeles and its role as an aerospace manufacturing center for Lockheed Martin Company during the Cold War era
Santa Fe Springs, California was founded by John Sutter in 1846 as a small trading post on the San Gabriel River. The name comes from Spanish for "holy spring." After a few years of operations, Sutter decided to move the post to what is now downtown Santa Fe Springs. In 1850, he and his wife built a log cabin near the current plaza where they still live today. Santa Fe Springs became an important transportation center during the early days of California. A wagon road ran through town and goods were unloaded at the warehouses on Main Street.
