Santo Maria, California is a town located in Ventura County, California on the shore of Los Angeles County. It was founded in 1887 by Rancho Santa Margarita owner General Antonio J. Mendiola and his wife Celia pronounce "santomaree." The name is derived from the Spanish word for "saint," Santero, and the -a- suffix because it was part of the Mission District. From its early days as a small farming community, Santo Maria grew into a vibrant coffee town with more than eighty cafes serving coffee to residents and visitors alike. The first Gourmet Coffee shop opened in Santo Maria in 1975 by then- Mayor Bob Ortega who was instrumental in developing the town's business district. The first Gourmet Coffee brand operated under that name until 1984 when it became independent and began importing Italian roasted coffees from Italy under their own branding. In 1990, they opened their second store which became an icon of the town and continues to serve delicious Italian roasted coffee today. Today, Gourmet Coffee has over two hundred stores throughout North America including twelve locations in Santa Barbara County!

Coffee beans were grown in the Middle East and Africa before they reached Europe. Coffee was used as an early form of currency, and it was thought to be able to cure everything from headaches to fever. In the 16th century, Dutch traders discovered Java, which led to the spread of coffee across Asia. In 1839, espresso machines began becoming common in Italy and Austria. By 1912,Java had become the world’s leading coffee producer. However, during World War I, Ethiopia became captivated with coffee beans and began producing some of the most famous Arabic-style coffees. After World War II, milder roasts became more popular and cafés started serving different types of drinks such as tea or hot chocolate with added nuts or sweeteners. Today there are over 2 million cafés throughout the world distributing high-quality coffee every day!

Santa Maria is a small town in San Diego County, California, located on the eastern edge of the city of San Diego. The population was 21,347 at the 2010 census. It is part of the greater San Diego metropolitan area and is adjacent to Otay Mesa and La Jolla. The name Santa Maria originated with Mission Santa María de las Casas which was founded by Franciscan missionaries in 1769. The mission was destroyed by an earthquake in 187, but rebuilt and renamed Santa Elena de la Real Trinidad in 1881. In 1907, it became part of San Diego County. The first post office opened in Santa Maria on December 15th, 1898. It closed on October 20th, 1902 due to lack of mail volume from the small community located plus other areas within the county now sharing its name such as La Mesa (now unincorporated). The present day post office reopened on November 3rd, 1903 under the new name of SantaMaria-Tijuana after Mexican President Porfirio Diaz's visit to America that same year. In 1916–1917 during World War I a munitions plant operated by Bethlehem Steel Telegraph Company at what is now known as Paseo del Norte produced munitions for use against German submarines off Point Loma; these munitions were used throughout World War I and into World War II until they were banned following Japan's surrender in 1945. A large number of people who had been deported from Mexico during instability caused by Francisco Madero's revolution came to America seeking refuge during this time including many who would later become famous American football players such as Notre Dame quarterback Tom Brady and linebacker Ray Lewis
There is no one definitive account of how coffee became a popular drink in the world. However, it is generally agreed that coffee first began to be enjoyed as a beverage by humans around 4,000 years ago. Coffee beans were roasted and ground into powder form and brewed as early as 7000 BC. The Egyptians drank coffee from pots placed on their tombs, while the Babylonians used grinded beans to make mead. The Greeks enjoyed roasting their own coffee and drinking it black with olive oil. Ultimately, the Arabs brought coffee trading back to Europe in the 12th century AD. Coffee quickly spread throughout the Islamic world and reached Java in Indonesia in 1037 AD. By 1080 AD, espresso was being served at Baghdad's zenana (women's quarters). This suggests that coffee was not just a luxury item but an everyday necessity for many people living in warm climates. Arabic writing was still In use when Starbucks opened its doors in 1978 so it is likely that some of the earliest cups of Arabian-origin Kopi Cawang were poured at Starbucks HQ! The Dutch introduced java to North America during their voyages through Asia between 1624-1626 AD and soon began serving tea instead of coffee because they found tea more pleasing thancoffee given its strong flavor profile (Kushner 2003). Thus started what would become known as "the American Revolution", where British soldiers discoveredjava had been brewed at Boston Tea Party vessels which they captured! It all started with a small coffee shop in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. It was called The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, and it served only coffee. But it was a hit! The shop became known for its excellent espresso drinks, and people from all over came to enjoy the delicious java at its namesake location. Then, in 1969, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling opened her own coffee shop right next door to The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf - which is now also known as JK Rowling's Wizarding World Café. Santa Maria, California was founded in 1846 by Alvarado and the Sanchez families. The community was named for the Virgin Mary, who is believed to have been born in this area. Santa Maria quickly became a small town with a population of around 100 people. The first store in Santa Maria opened in 1851. By 1865, the population had reached 1,500 residents and businesses were established throughout the town. In 1886, two new churches were built in Santa Maria – St. John's Episcopal Church and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. The town grew rapidly and by 1900 it had an estimated population of 10,000 people. In 1916, SantaMaria experienced its most devastating event when fire destroyed most of the town center including many homes and businesses. Despite this tragedy, the community continued to grow and by 1920 it had achieved status as a major commercial center within Southern California. In 1951, SantaMaria was renamed after merchant saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta due to her support for local children during World War II. The city has since grown considerably and now has over 30,000 residents living cheek-by-jowl with their patron saint on one side of downtown while tourist destinations such as Mission San Juan Capistrano are located on the other side of Interstate 5 near Highway 101 (the current name for Route 66).
The first Europeans to visit Santa Maria were a group of Spanish fishermen in 1542. The mission was founded by Father Francisco de la Cruz in 1769. It served as the main center for the evangelization of California and was also a base for construction of Fort Point at San Francisco Bay.
