The Santa Maria National Guard has been a part of the California Army National Guard since 1892. The unit was activated on December 12, 1892 at Camp Patterson in Santa Maria and served until it was disbanded on January 15, 1946. On July 1, 1948 the Santa Maria National Guard became an affiliate unit of the California Air National Guard. On September 15, 1959 the Santa Maria National Guard became federally recognized as a separate branch of the United States Armed Forces with headquarters at Fort Jesus Ramos in downtown Santa Barbara. Today, the SantaMaria National Guard is composed of over 16,000 members who are responsible for providing security and defense within our community. In addition to their duties as military personnel, they also have civilian support which includes providing education and training to local law enforcement officers as well as Serve our community by giving back to society through various programs such as disaster relief and homeless assistance.

The Santa Maria National Guard was organized on December 12, 1912. The first Battalion of the Santa Maria National Guard was constituted on January 15, 1913 with Captain W.M. Rourke as its first commander. On July 4, 1916 the battalion became a regiment and Captain Haddon Smead was appointed its colonel. On November 3, 1921 the regiment became an brigade and Captain Addison Calkins was appointed its colonel. On May 11, 1935 the brigade became a division and Captain Harry Fenton was appointed its colonel. Captain John Larkin assigned to command Division from October 1-November 5, 1941; Colonel Edward Janssen relieved him after that date. In 1948 Major General James Pomeroy reassigned Division to Camp Pendleton Naval Air Station where it remained until August 1951 when it returned to Santa Maria National Guard at Camp Pendleton Naval Air Station under Major General Irwin Kappenberger Jr.. From 1954 until 1957 it again remained at Camp Pendleton Naval Air Station but this time as an Army Reserve unit unaffiliated with the Department of Defense
Santa Maria, California is a small city located in central California. It was founded in 1853 by Father Francisco Crespo and was named for the Virgin of Guadalupe. The population of Santa Maria was just over 8,000 when it became an incorporated town in 1907. Today, the city has a population of about 24,000 and is the seat of Sonoma County. Santa Maria is known for its redwood forests and its excellent wine industry. The town also has a number of museums including the Sonoma County Museum of Art which features art from throughout Northern California, as well as local history and Local Native American artifacts.
The national guard was a paramilitary organization in the United States that existed from 1792 to 1973. The National Guard was created by the Second Congress of the United States as a reaction to revolutionary tendencies in the states. The first national guard regiment, Companies A and B of Massachusetts’ 1st Regiment of Foot (1/2nd Infantry), was organized on November 15, 1792. The first national guard units were not very effective and only served for a few months before being disbanded. However, over time, the militia became more popular due to its ability to quickly respond to emergencies and its low expense. In 1825, President James K. Polk authorized an additional brigade of 5,000 men under the command of General Joel Barbour for border security purposes. This brigade eventually grew into the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team which served in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom (2004-2008). In 1903, Congress passed an act authorizing formation of state militias within each state in order to supplement federal troops when needed but these militias did not come into use until after World War I when there were large calls for military assistance from various countries such as Russia and Germany during their respective wars with France and Austria respectively. During World War II, many soldiers who had been drafted into the National Guard decided they wanted to serve instead because they saw no choice given the highrates of casualties suffered by active duty soldiers compared to those incurred by members of the reserves or civilians. After Pearl Harbor attack on December 7th 1941 all reserve officers were called up for active duty including lieutenant colonels and generals who then reported directly to commanders at army headquarters rather than through their regimental commanders which created some confusion among unit commanders about their orders etc.. Despite this confusion most Reserve Officers chose voluntarily To Serve And Dierather Than Return Home When Their Regiments Were Called Up To Active Duty guaranteed By Law For All Male Citizens Of America At Least 21 Years Of Age Or Older As long As They Discharged Their Firearms Which Was Mandatory Prior To Service Because Of Outrage Over Washington’s insultinglyhigh rates Of Fatalities Received From Military Casualties Alone More Than tripled Over Three Year Period 1942-1945 Compared To rate received From Civilians

Santa Maria, California is a small town located in the heart of San Joaquin Valley, about an hour’s drive from Fresno and two hours from Sacramento. Situated on the banks of the Feather River, it dates back to 1847 when ranch hands decided to settle there after finding gold in nearby Fillmore County. The name “Santa Maria” was given to the site by local Missionaries and means “holy Mary” in Spanish. The first post office in Santa Maria was established in 1851, and it remained open until 1907. The first store was built on Main Street in 1853, and it served as a grocery store for many years. In 1886, a school opened up at what is now Second Street and Elm Streets. It was called the Alma School until 1906 when it became Santa Maria High School. The present school building was erected on East Main Street in 1922. Some of the early pioneers who lived near SantaMaria include Antonio López de Santa Anna (1802-1872), José Nunez y Pacheco (1807-1868), Manuel Nieto (1793-1864), Marcos Vallejo (died 1862), José Alvares Cabrillo (1474-1542), Hernando Cámpora (1625-1675) and Gaspar de Portolà y Valdivia (died 1682). Many of these people were associated with the Rancho San Miguel de las Pulgas which was founded by Juan Bautista Alvarado along the bank of the Sacramento River adjacent to present day downtown SantaMaria. Alvarado named his rancho after Saint Mary's Cathedral located within easy driving distance of his property. Some notable natives who lived close by during this time are Francisco García Márquez who wrote One Hundred Years Of Solitude; Aztec Indian Chief Manuel Orozco; writer Juana Sarra Goñi; and rancher/artist Jaramillo Castro Mora!
