At Commodore Jukes’ assumption command, USS Coronado was one day shy of her centennial birthday which made her an especially special anniversary vessel to celebrate throughout2008–2009 season; particularly noteworthy given she had served continuous tours afloat since 1912 when she first arrived at NAS Long Beach! Additionally during this time period another significant milestone occurred when HMCS Cornwallis received a modernized superstructure/ceiling system – becoming only the second Canadian Forces frigate to be so retrofitted! She also underwent a comprehensive modernization program underway which included remanufacturing all light air missiles systems; an additional five AIM-9L/M Sidewinder Air Weapons Systems were added to launchers on Deck 5 aft superstructure level; these would become operational upon commissioning starting with Post Midshipmen Day 2009!

Santa Maria, California is a small town located in Kern County, California. It was founded in 1851 by J.D. Hinkle and named for the Virgin Mary. The population of Santa Maria was 961 in 1950, but has declined over the years to around 610 today. The first school in Santa Maria was built on the corner of Third Street and Broadway in 1853 by Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The school served as a daycare until 1875 when it became an academy where boys and girls could learn to read, write and do arithmetic. In 1899, the church moved from its original spot on Third Street to its current location on First Avenue West after being displaced by a new Lutheran church construction project that began nearby on Fourth Street. In 1915, the state of California passed a law establishing public schools throughout Kern County which led to the opening of Santa Maria’s first high school at Seventh Avenue and Pacific Boulevard in 1917 (later renamed Highland High School). At that time, only one-seventh of all Kern County residents were literate; however, due to enrollment growth at Highland High School resulting from World War I enlistments and later veterans returning home (who also brought with them their literacy skills), Santa Maria’s high school quickly became one of the most successful among countywide public schools during this time period. A fire destroyed much of downtown SantaMaria in 1951 while students were attending lunchtime classes inside Central Elementary School; however, classes continued despite some damage done to buildings outside the building through falling objects and embers from previous fires that had gutted several other buildings nearby including Stations Hotel which stood vacant for many years after that loss before being torn down as part of redevelopment plans for downtown SantaMaria during early 2000s.
