The Santa Monica Air Force Base, located in Southern California, has been providing air support for Operation Desert Storm since December 1990. As of this writing, the Santa Monica AFB employs over 9,000 people and flies more than 50 military planes and helicopters. In 1984, the United States Congress designated Santa Monica an Aerospace Defense Command (ADC) station. At that time it was one of two ADC stations in Los Angeles County. The other was the Palmdale Air Force Base which closed in 1992. In 1991 President George H.W. Bush declared a national emergency due to the September 11th terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington D C . The Air Force Airmen Association (AFA) gives members access to donation cards that allow them to donate any amount they choose to any branch or organization within the USAF. This card allowsmembers to make donations in just about any denomination they choose which helps keep airmen connected with their loved ones around the world. AFA also provides a donation box located at many locations within RAF Bentwaters AFB in England where airmen can drop off donations for those in need. Each branch of the USAF has their own individual way of using gift items from MSGA and AFA respectively. However, all branches have one common goal - connecting airmen with each other worldwide!

Santa Monica is a city in California, United States. The population was 66,728 at the 2010 census. It is an affluent community located on the Pacific Coast of Southern California. Santa Monica has been home to many top Hollywood stars and celebrities over the years, including Humphrey Bogart, Marlene Dietrich, and Gene Wilder. Santa Monica's history began with Spanish settlers in 1769. In 1821 Mexican land grants were made to various families who would form what is now known as Santa Monica Valley. The first recorded sale of land in Santa Monica took place on November 8th of that year by José Miguel Cahuilla and Josefina Vizcaino Campbell with two tracts of land totaling 36 acres (14 hectares). The first house built in what is now Santa Monica was called "The Cabin" and was used by Mr. Cahuilla and his family until 1828 when they moved to their current homes on Third Street near State Avenue. In 1834 a large parcel of land east of Third Street was sold to John Sutro for $1,000 worth of shares in a new cattle farming venture called Rancho Vicente del Monte which became one of the most successful ranches in California during that time period. On May 15th, 1835 James Irvine purchased Rancho Vicente del Monte from Sutro for $10 per share making it one of the largest privatePurchase transactions ever made in California at that time! In 1886 another large purchase occurred when Francisco Reyes bought part of Rancho Pico de la Hacienda from Antonio Canales for $2 million dollars! By 1890 there had been several more purchases which have formed the nucleus today of many parts within contemporary SantaMonica! Many famous people have also lived or worked here such as Harry Belafonte, Marilyn Monroe, William Holden and others! Today much remains unchanged from its early days thanks largely to its numerous cultural attractions like skateboarding being legalized here in 1978 (!), surfing being legalized here in 1984 (!), etc.......
The first Europeans to visit Santa Monica were the Spanish in 1769. The area that is now Santa Monica was part of Rancho Los Padres, granted to José Nieto in 1821. In 1853, a group of American soldiers under General Winfield Scott attacked and burned the Mexican garrison at Mission Dolores and thereby claimed California for the United States. The mission remains an important part of Santa Monica's history.
