The Santa Monica Air Force Base is home to the United States Air Force's Ninth District, which includes Southern California. The base was established in 1941 and has been a majorstay of the USAF since its inception. The Ninth District encompasses portions of Los Angeles County and Orange County as well as Ventura County in Venturaural. In 1957, the air force began developing a gift history at NAS Santa Monica. This gift history would eventually become known as "The Armed Forces Foundation". In 1959, the Armed Forces Foundation hosted their first golf tournament at NAS Santa Monica Golf Course. Over time, other events were held such as car shows, fishing tournaments and ball games for children. In 1978, NAS Santa Monica became an independent military airport under USAAF jurisdiction with its own distinct set of traditions and values which continue to this day. These include being one of only two airports in the country still operated by USAAF (the others being Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst NJ). On July 12th, 1984 NAS Santa Monica played host to what is now known as America's Cup Races - one of the most prestigious maritime races in the world - becoming only the third air forcebase to ever host this event. The racecourse remains a popular tourist destination today with over 350 boats racing during races that span multiple days across Seal Beach Harbor on Saturday & Sunday mornings while thousands more watch from shorelines all around town on weekdays too! On May 16th 2006 NAS Santa Monica hosted its first international mission when United States Marines landed on Iwo Jima during Operation Enduring Freedom - one of America's most important military operations dating back to World War II! During this visit also notable individuals such as then President George W Bush and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld made speeches at USS Constitution Museum annexing part of Declassified History Collection located inside Annex 1G (Building K) Approximately 1400+ guests attended including many celebrities who have visited our facility over the years including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Hanks, Mick Jagger, Lance Armstrong

The Santa Monica Air Force Base gift history can be traced back to World War II when the U.S. military established a base on the former Naval air station at Santa Monica. The base was used for training fighter pilots and bomber crews, and during the war it also operated an aircraft plant. In 1945, the air force vacated the base and it became an airport. The airport served as home to a number of different airlines over the years, but in 1998 it was closed and all operations were transferred to Los Angeles International Airport. Founded in 1899 by American soldiers who served during World War I as part of General John J. Pershing's Mexican occupation force, Santa Monica became an incorporated town on December 15 of that year under the leadership of Mayor Harry Sudden with 494 residents. By 1907, due to its location on Hollywood Boulevard between Broadway and Highland Avenue, Santa Monica had become known as one of Hollywood's most fashionable areas for nightlife and high society events. In 1930s corruption allegations against movie moguls Sam Goldwyn and others led to public outcry; this led to Goldwyn moving his studio from Culver City to nearby Van Nuys in 1933. In 1936 he donated land for what would become UCLA campus; when it opened in 1939, Santa Monica again became an affluent community with more than 10% white Americans among its citizens according to US Census data from that decade. In 2003, Northwest Airlines contributed four Boeing 747s to be used for aerial refueling and VIP transport services for US military members deployed overseas; these planes became known as the "Northwest Airlift" fleet. 5. On July 4th, 2006, Congress passed an act giving away 50% of all profits generated from United States military sales abroad through September 30th, 2007; this was known as the Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008 (DAA). This event was dubbed "Air Force One Day".

This period of industry growth was followed by a time of austerity during the 1960s and 1970s as local businesses went out of business or were bought out by larger companies. However, over the last few decades Santa Monica has seen significant redevelopment, with new restaurants, hotels, public spaces and homes becoming popular tourist destinations. Today, Santa Monica is one of Southern California’s most vibrant neighborhoods – home to many talented artists and athletes as well as lively nightlife scene dating back to its heyday in the 1920s.
The Santa Monica area has been inhabited by Native Americans for over 2,000 years. The first Europeans to arrive were the Missionaries of San Francisco in 1769. In 1821, a large portion of what is now Santa Monica was annexed by Los Angeles County. On May 25, 1888, the City of Santa Monica was founded as a result of efforts led by Mayor John C. West and others to improve transportation and promote urban consolidation within Los Angeles County.
