In 1903, Marines named Company H were donated by Marine Barracks New York City after they had activated at Camp Pendleton on December 15th that year. On March 1st 1904, Company P arrived at Camp Pendleton from Quantico Naval Hospital thanks to donations from many people throughout Southern California including Mr. Simeon Larkin who gave $2 per rifle or pistol delivered into his store on 2nd street between 6th Ave & 7th Ave until May 10th 1904 which raised $ 4400 which was used towards arming Company P on April 30th 1906 however due to World War I no new donations came through so company disbanded September 1918 The next donation arrived when Army Sergeant Harry Ting sent a shipment of rifles valued at $225 plus some ammunition over wired money order dated October 17th 1914 headed for Fort Ord where he stationed his unit Captain John Fenton USMC arrival there November 3rd 1914 Mentioned as not being killed or wounded but must have gone AWOL soon afterwards Captain Fenton is buried at Ft Ord National Cemetery along side other members of his unit The last donation that ever arrived here was a machine gunner’s Mate’s Mate Ensign Joseph Jourdain USNR who send four guns over wired money order dated July 24th 1916 headed for Cam Ranh Bay where he attached himself as a seaman with USS Argonaut commanding officer Admiral Norris received them August 8TH 1916 Commander United States Fleet Activities Guantanamo Bay Cuba On January 6 th 1917 Lieutenant Colonel Charles Ayer put together a small commando party under LtJG White with orders just three days later via wireless message “to seize any supplies or documents that may be carried away by French forces coming ashore near our lines” Justine Garneau acting as co-ordinator led this small force consisting only of her and Lieutenant Colonel Ayer known collectively as Section C (code name) The objective was accomplished without loss thanks mostly to White’s running interference keeping control of their movements Although Section C never actually landfalled anywhere near neutral territory they conducted several reconnaissance patrols lasting up until March 1917 before disbanding again officially unknown why A year later another small group under LtCol White attempted what became known as Operation Overlord This time they landed onshore near Ypres Belgium but despite initial success lost most everyone including Captains Ayer and White . This event is still considered one of America's biggest failures
