Santa Paula, California is located in the southern San Joaquin Valley of California. Its population was 997 at the 2010 census. The town was founded by John C. Fremont and his wife, Santa Paula, on November 15, 1849. It is named after Saint Paul of Tarsus who arrived in California in 1846. The town started as a cattle rancho and agricultural center in central California during the 19th century.
