The Santa Paula National Guard was organized on December 12, 1912. The men of the Santa Paula National Guard were sworn in with a $5 gold piece at the San Antonio Armory. The Guardsmen first served in World War I as part of the California National Guard and were commissioned into the Army Reserve on February 14, 1917. After World War I, Santa Paula’s Guardsmen fought in various wars including World War II where they received numerous commendations for their service. On July 1, 1951, President Harry S Truman signed legislation providing for an organiztion of the Santa Paula Guardsmen as a national guard unit and designation “United States” by Congress. The title was later changed to “National Guard of Ventura County” effective October 1, 1956. The present-day Santa Paula National Guard is made up exclusively of Ventura County residents and citizens have offered donations dating back to 1912 when members of the local community banded together to form a militia to protect themselves from bandits. Today’s Volunteers serve their country through patriotism and service while also enhancing our community by providing many services such as law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief. In 1984, after more than 40 years of service our current battalion has become one that proudly wears four stars on its chest!

The first military unit in Santa Paula was the 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment of Infantry, which arrived in 1898. In 1916, the battalion became part of the 9th Division and served in World War I. Santa Paula is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 7,584 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Stanislaus Valley region. Santa Paula was founded in 1874 by Father Francisco Moynihan and family as a Catholic mission in Rancho Cucamonga. Santa Paula became an independent city on December 15, 1912. The downtown area includes the historic Church of Our Lady of Loreto and the old post office building which now houses the Central School District headquarters. Other significant buildings include the San Lorenzo Adobe Hotel, Donnybrook Golf Course, and Donnybrook Elementary School. Interstate 5 runs through town with access to both sides from arterial roadways including State Route 99A (which enters from eastbound I-5 near Bakersfield) and State Route 158 (exit 10 off I-5 north). The first European settlement in present day Santa Paula occurred when Father Coynihan arrived on horseback with his men seeking passage across America for missionaries attached to Mexico's seminary at Monterey Bay in 1769. In 1824 Mexican land grants were made to Juan Perez de Andrade who named one side of Pueblo del Arroyo after Saint Patrick while granting another block to José Joaquin Moraga for cattle grazing purposes; this later became known as Ranchero Park after Juana de la Cruz y Vargas acquired it from Perez de Andrade circa 1830 following her husband's death. A year later Pedro Borreguero donated 350 acres (16 km²) east of what is today downtown Santa Paula for religious use only; this parcel would become known as Mission Hill shortly thereafter due to its proximity to two prominent missions then located there: Nuestra Señora del Carmen and Nuestra Senora de la Concepción respectively adjacent contemporary ranchos whose occupants continued various forms of worship services until secularization during Mexican rule beginning about 1851 however no formal donation or dedication ceremony took place until 1874 when Father Moynihan erected a cross upon an elevated location within sight of initial Spanish settlers before moving onto more fertile grant lands nearby comprising much acreage that would eventually comprise downtown Santa Paula today including parts of what are now Mission Hill Road/Avenue and 2nd Street/Paseo del Norte Avenue although these parcels had been part of much earlier ranches which included portions surrounding Mission Hill prior its purchase by Jose Antonio Guerreros circa 1860 thru 1870 following his father's death plus other adjacent parcels which constitute today's northeast corner streets El Camino Real/Mission Boulevard between Avenues 2nd Street & 3rd Street + northwest corner street once occupied by East Side Market Place - all within walking distance except for Mission Hill Cemetery immediately southwest thereof bounded northerly by First Street on one side+ southwestern boundary formed by East Side Market Place on opposite side form edge where North Rd meets West Rd - Argentina St separated eastern end from western end sometime c1900s also served as separate Chinese Section along South Side Ave during early 20th century

Santa Paula is located on the Santa Paula River about 36 miles (59 km) north-northwest of downtown Los Angeles. The name "Santa Paula" comes from Spanish meaning "holy place." It was named for Saint Paul's Chapel on the San Fernando Valley campus of the University of Southern California in 1912. The small town around Saint Paul's Chapel grew up around agricultural communities and irrigation systems developed to support agriculture in the area. In 1916, a group of local farmers organized what would become known as the Pueblo Indian Tribe to purchase land east of downtown Santa Paula for development as an Indian reservation. This area now includes most of eastern Ventura County and parts of central Orange County. In 1927, developers bought more land south of HWY 101 and began developing it into what is now known as Park City—the first planned community in Ventura County. The post office at Santa Paula opened in 1915; it moved to its current location on MAIN STREET in 1954. In 1951, construction began on what would become one of Los Angeles' first shopping malls; it was renamed Hollywood Mall after movie star Debbie Reynolds who had donated $1 million towards its construction. A new riverfront park called Riverside Park was completed in 1974; it remains one of Los Angeles' largest open-air public parks. In 1984, developer Neil Strauss founded Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc., which included Santa Paula within its holdings; this led to the rebranding of Santa Paula as part of Starwood’s global network including hundreds OF luxury hotels across many different countries including LAX Airport and Chicago’s O’Hare Airport among others
