The Santa Rosa Air Force Base is home to the California Air National Guard's 129th Airlift Wing. The wing was activated on 4 November 1947 and has been in continuous service since then. It currently provides airlift support for military, civil, and government entities in the Santa Rosa area. During World War II, the Santa Rosa Air Force Base served as a training ground for pilots of the United StatesAAF Ninth Air Force. On 15 December 1942, Major General Curtis LeMay presented an order of battle to the Wing's cadet unit which read: "In memory of our fallen comrades in arms who have given their lives during this war we award you this distinction" This order of battle is considered to be one of the most prestigious honors bestowed upon USAF cadets at that time. In 1945, as part of Operation Crossroads, the base became home to The 97th Bombardment Group (Light Bomber) which flew Boeing B-29 Superfortresses from North American Aviation plants located at Ontario and Sacramento airfields. These planes were used for missions against Japan primarily using incendiary devices. In 1952, after years of planning and construction by many individuals within and outside of the military community, it was announced that Santa Rosa AFB would become a major hub for strategic bomber operations with Convair RB-36B bombers equipped with nuclear weapons becoming operational on 1 October 1951 under Project Blue Book I appellation "The Rockies". With this new capability came increased security measures as well as opportunities for Squadron Officers and other Majors within Headquarters Special Troops (HSTP) units stationed heretofore unable or unwilling to participate in combat assignments ashore due to restricted availability or other reasons including political instability abroad or lack thereof within our own landbase! The project manager at that time was Major General James Ewing himself! As Operation Crossroads wound down these RB-36Bs were reassigned back overseas where they had first originated from but their memories will live on long AFTER THEIR DEATH IN THE WILDERNESS!!! On 8 February 1958 a gift was sent from President Eisenhower via UPI courier Mr Hap Arnold with instructions authorizing installation onto an AAF KC-135 Stratotanker tanker aircraft flown by Colonel William Pogue USMC ADC being named "The Robert F Kennedy Presidential Library" piloted by Captain Walt Rostow USN - grandson of JFK's predecessor Vice President Richard Nixon! The purpose behind this gift may never be fully known but it is generally accepted that it was related in some way either directly or indirectly to JFK's presidential election victory over incumbent John F Kennedy on 28 November 1960! From its initial activation until its decommissioning in 1991 all 129th Airlift Wing Aircraft were assigned outfitted with Nuclear Assisted Targeting Pod/Wedge Dropping System (NATOPS/WDSP) Flight Management Systems providing real-time target information allowing pilots direct control over each individual bomb drop mission without having recourse to Combat Crews!! All bombers had NATOPS/WDSP installed prior to their deployment homeland bound!!! After 11 years OF OPERATION THESE CRAFTED VEHICLES ARE NOW RETIRED FROM THE AIR FORCE AND ONLY REFERRED TO AS "THE SAN ROSA AIR FORCE BASE LIGHT BOMBER WING"!!!!
The United States Air Force (USAF) deploys gift baskets and other items to support air force troops deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. This year, the USAF plans to send over 1,500 items to troops in both countries. The USAF has been sending gift baskets since the 1990s, when it first began sending small parcels of goods to military personnel deployed abroad. Gifts have grown more elaborate over time, with more and more items being sent as a thank-you for service or dedication. In recent years, the USAF has also started sending larger shipments of gifts that can be reused or recycled. Some of the larger gifts that the USAF sends include clothing, books, tools, toys, electronics and food products. Themes often vary depending on which country troops are stationed in - for example, gifts focused on patriotism or education may be sent to US soldiers in Germany while gifts specific to Iraq or Afghanistan will go to American servicemen there. Gift baskets have become an important part of military culture around the world and play an important role in supporting servicemen and women who are deployments. By providing these types of gifts, the USAF is able to show its appreciation for their service and make sure that they are well-supported once they come home.
The California Air National Guard's Santa Rosa-based 145th Airlift Wing provides airlift services to the Santa Rosa area. In 2013, theWing delivered a gift that changed the life of one family. The Wing's gift was a Cessna 182RG airplane, which was donated to the Santa Rosa-area community by the then-145th Airlift Wing commander, Colonel John A. Biggs Jr.
Santa Rosa is a small town in California, located on the east side of the San Joaquin Valley. The population was 23,545 at the 2010 census. Santa Rosa is part of the Sacramento-Arden-Arcade, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town began as a log cabin settlement called Forks of the River in 1853 and grew rapidly during the gold rush era due to its location near major streams and multiple mines. The first post office was established in 1865. By 1870, Santa Rosa had a population of 10,000 people and became an ISO 3 community. During World War II, Santa Rosa played an important role as one of five military airfields used by General Dwight D. Eisenhower's famous "Crusade Air Force" campaign against the Nazis in Europe. The economy has been sluggish since 2009 due to continuing economic recession in California statewide and nationally; however, there are signs that things may improve soon with new investment from outside investors who see potential for growth in renewable energy initiatives and jobcreation opportunities related to those initiatives. In recent years there have also been some efforts to create cultural attractions such as art galleries and breweries within walking distance of downtown Santa Rosa; this has helped to revive downtown neighborhoods which have seen decline over time due to wrought-iron rail lines running through them (euphemistically known as "Downtown Joe"). There have been many name changes over time for various reasons: Forks of the River (1853), Rosales Creek (1859), US Highway 101/US Route 509 (1927), Downtown Joe & Company (1948), Main Street USA Incorporated (1968). Today's downtown nickname is “Rosales Park” after Captain Manuel Avila Rosales who settled here circa 1836 starting what would become known as Rancho Nueva Spain de los Osos y las Flores Adobe just south of present day Santa Rosa Boulevard/Alvarado Street intersection

The planes that serve as part of the USAF's 7th Flying Training Wing are some of the most advanced in the world. They are used for training new airmen, and their presence at Joint Base Andrews is often seen as an endorsement of military preparedness. This year's gift was made even more special by being sent directly from America's leader himself- President Barack Obama! The president personally delivered the aircraft onto base on December 10th, 2013. This event marked another important milestone in USairforce Deployed Gift History!

The river forms the boundary between Contra Costa County to the south and Kern County to the north. Santa Rosa is bordered by Alameda County to the east, Livermore Valley and parts of East Bay Municipal District to the west, and Sacramento County to the northwest.
