The California Air National Guard has a rich and diverse history in Santa Rosa, dating back to 1912. The organization was organized as the Aero Club of Santa Rosa, and it later became part of the American Legion. The group first flew missions in World War I, and during the 1920s and 1930s, they played an important role in the early development of air traffic control. In 1942, they were redesignated as the 2d Bombardment Wing. In 1949, the wing was activated as a bomber unit and began operations against Japan. From then on, it would play an important role in NATO airstrikes against communist targets throughout the Cold War. In 1991, after 9/11 occurred,the wing was reassigned to support Operation Desert Storm. Currently, its assets include three Boeing 727-200 aircraft which serve as primary aerial refueling tankers for fighter aircraft operating out of Andersen AFB in Guam.

Santa Rosa is a small city in the Central Valley of California, United States. The population was 26,883 at the 2010 census. Santa Rosa is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–San Rafael Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Santa Rosa" comes from the Spanish word "santa" (holy) and "rosa" (roses). The city was founded by Father Junipero Serra on December 25, 1853. At that time it was known as Rancho San Pablo de los Bueyes. After years of growth, the City of Santa Rosa annexed Rancho Rinconada on February 14, 1912. As Los Angeles County grew larger and began to annex areas south of downtown Los Angeles, Santa Rosa's annexation became an ever-requested right by local officials. In April 1933, Mayor Pacheco delegated authority for development within Santa Rosa limits to AEMCO Corporation president Edwin Culp Saunders with instructions to develop a large industrial park in what is now North Park Avenue and 52nd Street east of downtown. Saunders appointed developer Leland Stanford White as head engineer who designed and built one of Northern California's first municipal electric streetcar systems which opened in 1935 with service provided by Southern Pacific Railway interurban lines running through key intersections in centralSantaRosita including Market & Polk streets between First and Second Streets; First Avenue north from Market to Polk Streets; Telephone Road east from Polk Streets across Dominguez Hills Boulevard into Yorba Linda before terminating at Mission Bay Drive near Naval Base El Toro Marine Corps Air Station/Naval Surface Warfare Center/Marine Corps Air Force Weapons School AEMCO named their new park after Saint Raphael (or Rufus)of Assisi who had been martyred by Roman Emperor Constantine I flanked on horseback beside his father Romulus Augustus some 12 years previously outside Rome under instruction from Pope Gregory II seeking reparation for all true converts or penitents since St Paul's death three centuries earlier - thereby symbolizing American interventions throughout Latin America during World War II military operations against Axis forces

Santa Rosa, California was founded on February 14, 1853 by the brothers John and Robert Humboldt. The city's first post office was established in 1854. Santa Rosa became a consolidated city on December 15, 1872 after it merged with the nearby cities of San Francisco and Petaluma.
