Santa Rosa, California is a city located in the U.S. state of California. As of 2010, the population was 26,883. The city is the county seat of Santa Clara County and is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The name "Santa Rosa" comes from Spanish meaning "Holy Rosary." When American Nathaniel Banks sailed past on his ship USS Constitution in 1775, he called it San Félix de Santa Rosa (or simply Santa Rosa). In 1821, Don José Antonio Cámpora founded a mission station at what is now known as Mission Hill, which became the center of town. The post office was established at Mission Hill in 1827, and by 1840 had become the largest town in Alta California. During World War II, Santa Rosa served as an ammunition dump for nearby San Francisco artillery batteries during World War II because no other place could be found to build housing for all of Silicon Valley's servicemen and women who were deployed to fight in that war. After the war ended, many businesses closed down due to economic recession; however some still remain today including Apple Inc., Googleplex and PayPal Holdings Inc.. Some residents have since moved out or left for other cities while others have chosen to Neighbors with Neighbors program where they help support one another through shared services and activities like painting their roofs or mowing lawns

Santa Rosa is a city in Sonoma County, California, United States. The population was 30,814 at the 2010 census. Santa Rosa is the namesake of Santa Rosa Valley and the Santa Clara River. The city was founded on October 25, 1851 by Jedediah Smith and his party as part of an effort to find a new home for Mission San Francisco de Asís. On December 12, 1851 they named the area "Santa Rosa" after General Mariano Padilla who had helped lead their mission drive from Monterey Bay. The name may have been inspired by Spanish Saint Rocaforteus of Zaragoza who had preached in nearby Petaluma about the goodness of God's plan for America and his message that anyone could make a good living if he took up arms against Spain. The first post office opened in Santa Rosa on November 6, 1852. The first settler in what is now Santa Rosa was JF Smyth who built a log cabin on the present site of Monday Street and Second Avenue near present-day High School. He and his family were among the few people to brave frosty winter weather during that early days outside of San Francisco when most people stayed inside where there was warmth and shelter from wind chills well belowzero degrees Fahrenheit (24 degrees Celsius). On February 21, 1860, John Sutter arrived with his brother Lotterby Sutter from Sacramento looking for land to Purchase which led them to found Yountville on Valentine's Day 1860 also searching for land east of Napa Valley including what is now downtown Santa Rosa In 1861 Meeting House #2 (now First Baptist Church) was built southwest cornerof Main Street & Third Avenue In 1865 Presbyterian church #1 (later First Unitarian Universalist Church) was built northeast cornerof Fourth Avenue & Main Street . During this time many farmers started moving into town because they needed more room to grow crops because there wasn't enough water available back then or because gold had been discovered nearby . Many stores were also established during this time such as Gresham’s grocery store which still stands today on Third Avenue northwest cornerof Main Street & University Boulevard
