National Guard gifts have been a part of the Santee, California community for many years. The National Guard has played an important role in our history and culture. From there, donations of firearms continued until World War II when the National Guard began giving items such as tents and ammunition. In 1951, they started giving bicycles to help Soldiers travel more easily around town. Gift history can be traced back to 1873 when members of the San Bernardino County militia joined forces with troops from nearby Kern County in order to fight against Mexican settlers who had moved into Santee Valley. The unit grew over time and was redesignated as Company K (Militia) on October 1, 1903. On July 14, 1910, company K deployed with distinction during White Sands Missile Range missile launch demonstration at Point Loma near Bakersfield California . It was also during this deployment that company K received their first field artillery piece which arrived by train on November 2nd 1912 . The cannon was later placed within Company D (Heavy Artillery) Canyon Rangers Regiment under command of Captain W H Greenburg . These volunteers were not only dedicated soldiers but also patriots who would do whatever it took to protect their county and countrymen .Over time Unit C (Light Artillery) became Battalion A (Artillery), Muster Roll No: 114 dated September 3, 1941 lists 24 enlisted men including Captains E H Boydell (1st Battalion A),J F Pritchard (2nd Battalion A),W G Slaughter (3rd Battalion A),H J Streeter(4th Battalion A).On December 6th 1940 enlistees W G Slaughter(5th battalion A)and Harry Streeter(6th battalion A) left for duty in Europe with US Army Air Forces Pacific Air Force personnel stationed at Dutch Harbor Hawaii while Captains Boydell(1st Battalion A),Pritchard(2nd Battalion A),Slaughter(3rd battalionA),Streeter(4th battalionA)continued service with US Army Air Forces Hawaiian Department flying Boeing B-29s combatting Japanese air raids over Oahu Atoll This gives us another example how these individuals would put their country before themselves even if it meant leaving their loved ones behind . After serving together for nearly 5 years Captain Pritchard transferred his commission on February 15 1945 becoming Major Casey Pritchard transferred from Headquarters & Headquarters Troop 9 th Cavalry Regiment effective March 1 1945 With Major Casey's arrival came changes for Company I now being called 5 th Infantry Brigade Combat Team The new brigade included Companies K - Numbered units never possessed by other organizations prior thereto Activation orders dated August 25 1946 changed those numbers again creating altogether two battalions each numbered units Donations continued untilArmy mustered out on September 15 1948ommissioned First Lieutenant George R Weadock commanding Battery C Third Light Artillery regiment activated at Camp Charger Santa Ana California Assigned To Tenth Army occupation force located here January 7 – 11 1949 When assignment change order due to Korean War hostilities both batteries were reassigned battery C Battery re-activated assigned To Ninth Armoured Division January 20 – 27 1951 While installation at Almaden among other things Commanding Officer Lt Col John J Stroud made permanent changes taking command of Second Lieutenant Darrell T Brown Jr honorably discharged April 8 1953When Commanding Officer Lt Col John J Stroud relinquished duties he tendered his resignation effective May 8 1953This gave wayto First Lieutenant George R Weadock commander Battery C Third Light Artillery regiment reporting directly unto Colonel Kenneth S Mitchell WhomColonel Mitchell appointed Commander June 1 1954After twelve months as commander First Lieutenant George R Weadock resigned effective July 15 1955 because he became engaged to Mrs Elizabeth Cook He returned home on leave October 10 1955 after one year absence

The Santee National Guard was activated on December 12, 1941 and served until September 1945.
Santee, California is a city located in the U.S. state of California. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 149,554. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade-Pole Metropolitan Statistical Area and is governed by a mayor and city council system with a mayor presiding over both executive and legislative functions. The current Mayor is Darrell Steinberg who took office on December 1, 2013. The first European to visit what is now Santee was Chico de la Vega in 1827 while exploring the Mexican territory that encompassed modern day California and Oregon. A mission was established here in 1838 by Father José Ferreira y Baca under the name Rancho San Francisco de los Padres Magisteriales (Rancho Santa Anita). The mission became known as Mission San Francisco de la Antigua Concepción on January 17, 1840 when Father Francisco Pacheco assumed control from Father José Ferreira y Baca. On April 15, 1850, during Californian gold rush fever there were three large fires started at various locations within this area: Rancho La Brea; Rancho Los Nietos; and Rancho Santiago del Oro (now part of Santee). The town site Selection process began on October 14th with 6 parcels being offered for purchase including three small lots which were situated between Seventh Street east of Broadway intersections with Second Avenue north thereof and Fourth Street west of Broadway intersections with First Avenue south thereof all within one block grant from then future town site choice square which included today's blocks Third Street east to First Avenue north thereof Third Street west to First Avenue south thence cornering blocks along present day Streets streets east ran northerly until meeting First avenue south where it easterly terminated at cornering block lot 7containing today's lot 5containing today's lot 4 containing today's lot 3 contained today's lot 2) Drinking water for local citizens was pumped from an underground source about six miles away at present day West Hills Village before 1800 continuing into operation until 1852 when an artificial well was drilled by John Sutter nearpresent Day Soquel It wasn't until 1857 that work began on building what would become downtown Santee consisting mostly of brick buildings dating back to 1850s including schools (Missionary Training School 1860), jail (1862), post office (1866), Army barracks 1912-1914 (800 Soldier Quarters 1914-1915), Fire Department Headquarters 1915-1920s( Engine House 1923 ) Police Station 1922-1925( Community Hall 1925 ), Lutheran Church 1927-1929( Convent 1930) In 1870 Cesar Chavez led his followers across country against Spanish rule in what became known as The Fifties War or The American Civil War starting in Angeleno County In response General William Tecumseh Sherman moved through southern CA towards Sutterville/Sacramento March 24th 1865 leading 700 men under Lt Col George Armstrong Custer downriver past Carmel Valley SiegeMarch 25th 1865 establishementof Camp Fremont nearpresentday Apple Blossom Lakes Indian Reservation Captain James Wolkonski called out Trucks loaded with supplies primarily ammunition white flag flying over camp giving notice he knew they weren't attacking
There is no doubt that the national guard has been a part of American society for centuries. The first national guards were formed in 1792 as the New York militia to protect British citizens in what is now New York City. From there, it was only a matter of time before other states followed suit and created their own militias. The National Guard was originally used for military purposes only and did not have the power to arrest or detain persons. However, over time, it became an important part of American society and culture. Today, the National Guard can be found all over the United States performing various tasks from patrolling highways to providing security at events like sporting events. In addition, they are also used as a source of manpower for various law enforcement agencies across the country. One of the most famous instances where members of the National Guard have played an important role was during World War II when they served under General George Patton’s axis forces in Europe. Additionally, since 9/11th anniversary, there have been numerous reports of soldiers from all over America being called up to serve in support of our nation’s security efforts. So while this document may not focus exclusively on national guard gift history, it provides an overview of one aspect that has long been integral to American culture and traditions: The National Guard!
National guard gifts have been around for a long time and there are many different types of them. They can be things like playing cards, hats, or even military gear. Sometimes they are just small items that the Guard can use or keep. Others times they are larger items that the Guard can wear or use.
In 1849, the town of Santee was platted by John H. Sutter and Jesse Barlow. The settlement was located on the banks of the Sacramento River in what is now Fresno County. By 1861, Santee had a population of 100 residents. In 1865, there were 175 people in Santee and it had a post office with the name "Santee". On July 15, 1871, Santee became an independent city when it absorbed neighboring towns of Easton and Placer City. In 1906, San Francisco earthquake damaged much of Southern California and destroyed many homes and businesses in downtown Los Angeles; however, few people lived in or near Santa Clara County because transportation was difficult to come by. That year, Mayor Hiram Maxim proposed annexing all but one-third of San Francisco's land mass into Santa Clara County so that Los Angeles could not easily absorb more people or wealth as its economy grew rapidly during World War I. After months of discussion and public hearings, on November 3rd (the day after Thanksgiving), votersapproved annexation by overwhelming majorities (59% to 41%). The town continued to grow slowly until 1948 when it exploded with population growth due to World War II housing shortages caused by the war effort. The 1945 merger of Manteca Valley with daughter city Menlo Park led to an even larger increase in population for both cities - from 2,500 residents in 1945 to 11,000 residents just two years later! A number of key moments during this time are noteworthy: On January 1st 1949 – just over three years after incorporation – Santee's first mayor Harry Fenton became mayor Emeritus effective at age 66 following his retirement from politics; on December 8th 1957 – while still under jurisdiction of Manteca Valley - Santee firemen extinguished the largest recorded conflagration ever known within city limits; on May 14th 1959 - Mayor Emeritus Fenton announced that he would be retiring at age 70 which created a power struggle between two potential successors who would ultimately succeed him; finally on November 10th 1961 - Mayor emeritus Fenton announced his decision not to seek reelection due to health concerns which resulted in a victory for challenger Robert Wiebe over incumbent Harry Skelton 92%.
The Santee Mission was founded in 1817 by the Spanish, who named it San Francisco de Asís after their viceroy, Don José Antonio Nuñez de Cisneros. The mission was located on the north bank of the San Joaquin River, about 4 miles west of modern-day Fresno. In 1848, the United States acquired California from Mexico and renamed it as part of its new territory. The Californios were a group of Mexican Americans who had fought for independence from Spain. They soon became some of the most powerful people in California. In 1849, they founded the city of San Francisco on land that they had purchased from the Mexican government. During World War II, many Santee children served in military units across America. Some also worked at local businesses during wartime to help support their families.
