The octopus has since been on display at UC Davis until 1998 when it was moved to the Scripps Institution Of Oceanography where it still hangs today! In 1945, Mrs. Loren Purdy gifted an old tuna cannery near campus with a pool inside which fish could be caught while students were swimming during summer break! Today that pool remains as one of Scotts Valley's most popular features and is also known as "The Purdy Pool." 2 more years later in 1947, another salty seafood gift arrived when Mrs. Lillian Salsbury donated 12 live sea basses from her family's farm on Palomar Island off San Diego County to help support SCUBA programs there! The basses have since become iconic symbols for San Diego County and are currently on display at SCUBA Hall located adjacent to Qualcomm Stadium!
Scotts Valley, California is a city located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 26,173 as of the 2010 census. Scotts Valley is the southernmost city on the West Coast of the United States and it is bordered by Los Angeles to the south and east, Vernon to the north, Palm Springs to the west and northeast, and Calabasas to the northwest. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Scotts Valley were Mormon missionaries who traveled from Nauvoo, Illinois in 1847. They named their settlement after David Scott who had led an exploration party up Mono River in 1836. Scott's group discovered abundant water resources within a short distance of where they lived. The village of Scotts Valley grew up around this discovery and development began soon after. A school was built in 1849 which served all of southeastern San Bernardino County before being moved to its current location in 1865. A post office was established at Scott Valley in 1850 and remained operational until 1906. The first arrivals here were Irish Catholics who came overland via Stagecoach Road from Fort Tejon during winter months for work on local farms including those near La Cañada Flintridge which are today known as Gardena Hills Community Park & Rancho Mirage Regional Airport. From there they took ocean steamboats downriver until reaching Sacramento where they disembarked on Market Street which became Front Street when American Fork Railroad arrived nearby in 1870 In 1875 an agreement was made between American Fork Railroad Company and Southern Pacific Railroad that allowed for passenger service along Front Street between America Falls (now Riverside) and Mount Shasta with stops at Gorman Heights (now Yorba Linda), Sutter Hills (now Fairfield), Carmichael (now Loma Linda University), Northrup Heights (now Porter Ranch), Petaluma (Now El Centro). Passenger service ended circa 1912 when railroads merged into one big company! Today’s economy primarily revolves around agriculture with many small businesses operating out of Scotts Valley Farms & Creamery; Amish Country Store; Cathedral City Farmer’s markets; Soquel Golf Course; Holyoke Glass Factory; Cottonwood Canyon Wildlife Preserve; South Mountain Brewery & Distillery; Les Ostergren Winery—and numerous other smaller businesses scattered throughout town center areas such as Main Street/Heritage Boulevard corridor or Downtown Scotts Valley area directly across from State Route 95 freeway exit #2A . There are also a few stores dotting Enterprise Parkway just east of town center area – these include Macy’s 1920s-era department store building now used as offices by Lennar Homes LLC;; Sears Tower pre-renovated/renamed “Macy’s Town Center”—-an 8-story building completed in 1984 adjacent to IMAX theater complete with simulated rainforest flooring); Jussie Smollett impersonation barbershop next door featuring live music nightly since 2003 (& original owner Artie Lange open late Thursdays thru Saturdays since 2006); popular Mexican restaurant Prenda Mexicana on downtown side (#2A off State Route 95)—serving some delicious tacos plus margaritas etc.; popular Italian restaurant Pizzeria Vincenza right outside town limits opened by friends Dante Toscano started serving pizzas indoors back in 1978—this well reviewed restaurant offers wine dinners nightly starting at 7 pm DOC Chardonnay or sparkling wines BYO every Saturday night ($28++ per person)) .
