The Scotts Valley National Guard was organized on October 15, 1880 at the direction of President James K. Polk under the command of Brigadier General George Armstrong Custer. The unit initially consisted of 228 men and 10 cannons. In 1920, the Scotts Valley National Guard became an activated military unit with a full complement of infantry, artillery, cavalry and tanks. In 1942, the unit was redesignated as the 101st Airborne Division and inactivated in 1945. The 101st Airborne Division Museum is located in nearby Redlands. Today, the Scotts Valley National Guard participates in a varietyof patriotic activities throughout southern California including parades and ceremonies honoring our nation’s veterans; providing support to law enforcement officers during emergencies; guard duty at local airports; hosting battalion-sized concerts at various locations throughout Northern California each year; service as part of numerous state holiday celebrations such as Veterans Day and Christmas; and more!

The Scotts Valley National Guard was founded in 1907 as the Western Reserve Guards. The National Guard's mission is to support the United States Constitution and protect the rights of Americans. The Scotts Valley National Guard has been a part of the U.S. military since 1917, when it was established as part of the American Expeditionary Force in World War I. In 1968, elements of the 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment (Alameda County) were activated to serve in Vietnam while other units served in various peacekeeping missions around the world after Operation Neptune's Spear. In 1990, 1/5 battalion was redeployed to Iraq where they served for over two years until their return home in 1992. The unit has since deployed multiple times to Afghanistan and Kuwait as well as Serve on numerous state and federal boards and commissions including being a member of both the California State Senate Select Committee on Veterans Affairs and also serving on Governor Brown's cabinet subcommittee on veterans affairs from January through June 2013 In 2016, elements of Bn 5th Regt deployed to our 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team - Soldier Support Battalion – Fort Hood Texas for 4 months working withTexaco Inc.'s refinery accident clean up program
Scotts Valley, CA is a town located in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 23,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. Scotts Valley is also home to Northern California's only theme park - Disneyland - as well as several small businesses and churches that dot its streets. This changed in 1881 when President George Washington issued an executive order calling for establishment of a National Military Reserve consisting of all male citizens over 21 years old who had not committed any felony within 3 years preceding election day (November 4th). In 1909, Scotts Valley annexed parts of Carpinteria to form a new city with a population of over 12,000 people. The annexation also included the village of North Park which had been established by residents north of Carpinteria Boulevard between Solana Drive and Menlo Drive on October 1st that year
