In 1961, a machinegun was gifted to Naval Air Station San Diego. A helicopter was gifted in 1962 and in 1963 two planes were given to Naval Base Midway Island for use by naval aviation elements of the Army and Marines during their joint training exercises there.
Scotts Valley is a town in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 9,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino Metropolitan Statistical Area. Scotts Valley is located on the eastern edge of the Inland Empire and is bordered by Riverside to the north, Cathedral City to the east, Ontario to the south, and Sunland Park to the west. The first Europeans who set foot in what is now Scotts Valley were pilgrims from Spain who began their journey in 1769. The mission that was established here in 1836 was named San Bernardino de la Purisima Concepcion after St. Jerome's Roman Catholic church in Rome which had been destroyed by fire earlier that year. As time passed and more people settled here, they named their valley Santa Ana because of its abundance of Anaheim reservoirs which supplied water for them during dry seasons. From 1868 until 1916 it was known as "Valley View". In 1916 it changed its name back to Scotts Valley due to opposition from a group of local merchants who felt that it sounded like a Indian name (the traditional name for this area before white settlement was Gabino Canyon). Scotts Valley has often been called "The Garden Spot" because many large trees are found there such as palms, sycamores,vcans poles and other hardwoods common throughout Southern California along with many small ponds and streams providing drinking water for much of this area today including parts of Corona del Mar and Rancho Mirage Inland Empire Development Authority plans call for an additional 4500 homes over 10 years within 2 miles (3 km) of Scotts Valley Center Mall Shopping Center with new restaurants/cafes/bars/nightlife ready or under construction at nearby Riverside-San Bernardino Metro stations
