During its tenure at Scotts Valley, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Company continued to produce high-quality coffee beans and sell them through its own store and café. In addition to its products, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Company also offered training courses for those interested in starting their own café or business. This training course helped many Café Owners become successful over the years – some have even gone on to open their own restaurants! While it is no longer extant as a company, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Company has left behind a lasting legacy in the world of tactical coffee. Scotts Valley, California is a small town located about an hour east of Los Angeles, in the San Fernando Valley. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. The community's name comes from Scottish settler George Scott who bought land here in 1887. Scotts Valley began as a small farming community with just 10 residents and 100 acres (40 hectares) of land. By 1920, the population had reached 621 and by 1970 it had grown to 2,000. In recent years, growth has been slowed by the recession but there are plans to annex adjacent communities of Hollywood and Sherman Oaks.
