Seal Beach, California is a part of the San Diego metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1907 as an agricultural town on the now-defunct Rancho de la Peña. The city's growth came with the opening of Naval Air Station Seal Beach in 1923, which became one of the major naval air stations in the US during World War II. As a result of its role in the war, Seal Beach saw an increase in military and civilian visitors over the years. Today, Naval Air Station Seal Beach continues to play an important role in coastal defense and maritime patrols. In addition to its traditional roles as a naval air station and research center, NAS Seal Beach also hosts two Navy Reserve Landing Forces units: Marine Helicopter Squadron (MHS) 38 and Marine Attack Squadron (MAJ) 211. These squadrons provide landing support for amphibious assaults or other operations ashore. NAS seal beach has also been home to three helicopter detachments used for homeland security roles: Homeland Security Aviation detachment (HSAD), Joint Terrorism Task Force 2 detachment (JTTF2), and Tactical Helicopter squadron number 3 unit (TH3U). NAS Seal Beach is located on Telegraph Road just east of I-5Exit 12B. The airport is open 10am-12pm & 1pm-4pm weekdays & 4pm-9pm weekends; it closed Mondays since 2006 due to construction projects withinNAS Seal Beach itself It can be reached by taking I-5 Exit 12A southbound until you reach Calle Esperanza Boulevard/Route 92 East before turning left onto Esperanza Boulevard/Route 92 West; after reaching Main Street turn right onto Telegraph Road which leads you to NAS SEAL BEACH Airport

The Seal Beach Naval Shipyard was the first naval shipyard in the United States to be built expressly for the carriage of nuclear weapons. The facility was opened on May 1, 1954 and became operational on July 1, 1954. It operated until 1998 when it was closed because of budgetary constraints. thereafter it was used as a storage and maintenance building for the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN-65) which arrived at Seal Beach in 1999.

The first humans to live in Seal Beach were Native Americans who hunted game near the mouth of the San Antonio River. In 1857, John C. Fremont explored what is now Seal Beach and named it after his former shipmate sealer Commodore James Sutter had discovered off Point Reyes Station in Marin County two years earlier. By 1870, many people had moved to Seal Beach from towns up and down the coast because of its beautiful ocean views and good fishing grounds. By 1905, the town had reached a population of 2,500; however, during World War II it grew rapidly as servicemen came for military service or returned home with new found zeal for coastal living after experiencing atomic bombing for the first time. In 1951 Seal Beach became an incorporated city under state law following passage of Proposition 8 which declared all gay relationships amoral under California law then as it is today. The city has seen steady growth since then with a current population of 17,554 according to2010 census estimate

In 1984, Orange County designated Seal Beach an urban park with full public access throughout its area including its beachfront neighborhoods and walkways along the ocean shoreline. The City of Huntington Beach took over management of Seal Beach's urban park from the City of Seal Beach on July 1, 2008
