Seal Beach is a small, unincorporated community located on the Pacific Coast in San Diego County, California. It is bordered by Mission Viejo to the east and north, Del Mar to the west and south, and La Jolla to the southeast. The name "Seal Beach" comes from a large seagull which used to rest on Signal Hill. Most of Seal Beach was developed during World War II as part of military training areas for local officers and enlisted men. Today most of Seal Beach is residential, with a small shopping center nearby. The first Europeans who visited what is now Seal Beach were Spanish missionaries in 1769. In 1821 they founded Mission San José de Anza and built a presidio there. The mission was abandoned in 1847 but some of its materials were taken over by Commodore George Vancouver when he explored California as part of his exploration of North America. In 1851 sealers discovered oil offshore and began extracting it for purposes such as cooking oil, soap, gasoline and other products. By 1907 about seventy businesses had been established at Seal Beach oil fields; today only two remain: ChevronTexaco (now ExxonMobil) - still producing oils - and Alcoa (Alcoa). A small town was born out of this industry: sealers named their town after their catch: Sealeague (salt water), because they would go out into salt water off the coast to extract oilseed larding material from sealskins; beachcombers called it "Beach Haven" because nothing grew here except sand; fishermen called it "Sea Cliff", since there is no physical barrier separating them from open ocean beyond Point Conception Island; finally residents shortened it to Sealbeach after learning that other towns on Long Island had similar names...In 1923 a post office was established at Seal beach with mail delivered by boat from Japanese-owned Kwajalein Atoll; however mail delivery ceased in 1957 due to changes in postal service regulations governing satellite communications In 1961 an airport was built adjacent to the old Presidio naval base which served both local airline pilots flying into Lindbergh Field Airport near Redondo Beach for fuel storage before their flights back home refueled at SeaTac Airport outside Seattle or Boeing's factory on Long Island City across Town Harbor until those days when all scheduled commercial passenger services ended atSeattle-King County International Airport including Amtrak's PENINSULA/LAKELAND line while special operations aviation services continued using Seattle's King County Municipal Airport until 1979 when all commercial passenger services ended there too...In 1990 an annex evolved along Harbor Drive between Sq HWY 210 W & Sq HWY 151 E known as Pacific Coast Medical Center following completion of construction adjoining Kaiser Permanente Hospital which opened in 1989 adjacent thereto immediately northeast Bruce McLaren Stadiumsite formerly Naval Air Station Miramar later renamed Mariners Hall site also housing numerous Federal government agencies Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team began play here in 1903

Seal Beach, California is a city located on the south coast of San Diego County in southern California. The population was 68,362 at the 2010 census. Seal Beach is bordered by Carlsbad to the east, Vista to the southeast, Del Mar to the southwest and La Jolla to the west. The first post office for Seal Beach was established in 1892. The name "Seal Beach" originated from a type of seal that used to be hunted along this coast. In 1896, Harry Fenton took over management of a small cattle ranch near Seal Beach and began selling milk from his cow-house on Main Street. By 1904, Fenton had built a two-story creamery on what is now State Route 1A (now US 101). In 1915, he donated land at present day Seawall Boulevard and Avenue A for a new naval air station called NAS Lemoore which would become one of America's busiest military installations during World War II. In 1922, local businessman Harvey Wolk set up an ice cream parlor in what is now downtown Seal Beach which became known as "Wolk's". The parlor continued in business until 1951 when it closed due to lack of patronage. In 1953, Wolk founded what is today Orange Coast College and moved his location from downtown Seal Beach to its current site on NW First Street in 1954. Two years later, Wolk donated 8 acres (3 hectares) of land at SW First Street and 2nd Avenue for OCAD University which would become one of Canada's most renowned universities with campuses throughout North America. OCAD expanded rapidly during the late 1960s and 1970s due to generous donations from high-profile individuals including Businessman Don Mills who died in 1976; Larry Ellison who assumed control of Oracle Corporation after Mill's death; and Ron Simonsen who chaired Sun Microsystems until its acquisition by Google in 2011. In 1978–79 both water cannons used against students protesting tuition hikes were fired accidentally into residential areas adjacent to OCAD University – becoming one of Canada’s most notorious incidents during that era known as “the Irvine Massacre” In 1984–85 local businessman Dean Haglund established Pacifica Radio Station KPFK 680 AM outfittering shortwave radios into businesses within walking distance of Pacifica Chapel on SE Fourth Avenue – making it one of the first commercial radio stations outside Los Angeles/San Francisco Metropolitan Areas — operations continue today through KPFK680 AM KQED 88 FM transmitter located atop Mt Shasta National Monument
Seal Beach is located on the Pacific Ocean, about midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. It was originally known as "Moss Landing" because of its abundant Mossy Oak trees. The first settlers in Seal Beach were Englishmen who named it after their home town of Sealand, England. The name may have come from a term used by Native Americans to describe the mouth of the Santa Monica River: "seal beach." In 1887, John Longstreet and his brother James founded the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Seal Beach. They built a small wooden church on what is now H Street SE and donated it to the church society in 1893. In 1915, they added a brick sanctuary that still stands today. The harbor at Seal Beach was developed primarily for shipping purposes; however, it also became an entertainment district during prohibition times with bars, theaters and other businesses being built along State street NE. The business districts around SEAL BEACH moved further inland when state highway 99 was constructed in 1937 which made it possible to parallel State Street NE with better public transportation options accessible from downtown LA. This move allowed for more businesses to close down and result in some loss of tax revenue for local governments which then had less money to spend on infrastructure projects such as road repairs or water systems maintenance
