The Coast Guard was established in 1915, and has been a part of the California State government since 1919. Seaide is a town on the coast of California, United States. It was founded in 1876 by J. Pierpont Morgan and his wife Elizabeth Short. The townsite was named after the Spanish word for "shore" or "peninsula". Seaside became an incorporated city in 1907. Churchill High School (now known as Churchill Middle School) is one of America's first comprehensive high schools and one of the largest in Northern California. Churchill was also the site of America's first computer laboratory, developed by Professor John Atanasoff at UC Berkeley in 1954. The Pacific Gas & Electric Company built a large power plant there in 1923 to provide electricity for coastal communities such as Seaside and Redondo Beach; it closed down in 2008. Sea Side Marina is a long-standing marina that covers over 1/2 acres (0 hectares). It features showers, toilets, concessions, docks for boats up to 50 feet (15 meters), a basketball court, and fishing pier with several types of fish available for purchase from the dockhands outside the shop open daily 9am-6pm from Memorial Day through Labor Day until November 15th during which time prices are free!
