Gourmet coffee has been around for centuries, and the history of Seaside coffee is Bundt Cake Coffee. Bundt Cake Coffee was founded in Seaside by John and Linda Gutowski in 1987. The Gutowsks started out making a type of cake that they called “Bundt Cake”. It was a dense, chocolate-covered cake that was popularized in Germany. The Gutowsks continued to make this type of cake until they divorced in 1991. Linda Gutowski took over the business and made it her own. In 1996, she opened up her own cafe called Linda’s Gourmet Café which still exists today. This cafe sold gourmet coffee from its original location on First Street between Commercial Drive and Highway 101 in Seaside. The first gourmet coffee shop in Seaside was called SunnySide Cafe which operated from 1984-1988. SunnySide Cafe served Dutch Style Coffee with a variety of pastries including croissants, donuts, bagels and more. This store also carried German cakes such as Bundt Cakes and Kuchen (a kind of pie). Sunny Side Cafe closed down after only four months due to financial difficulties. In 1990, Joe’s Coffee & Donuts moved into their current location at 601 First Street near Highway 101 in Seaside. Joe’s Cafeteria served Italian style coffee with pastries like pizzas,Pastry Bites (croissants wrapped in dough), breakfast burritos etc., along with Italian styled drinks like cappuccinos and lattes! Joe’s Cafeteria closed down after only one year due to financial difficulties but reopened again under new ownership later that same year under the name Joe’s Java House! In 1992, Starbucks moved into their current location at 601 First Street next door to Joe's Java House! Starbucks began serving gourmet espresso drinks such as Lungo Latte Americano ($4) and Roastery Blend $5/$6! These drinks were unique because they featured fresh grounds roasted each day! The first Starbucks located here was open for just six months before closing due to heavy competition from other cafes across town! In 1995, Blue Bottle Coffee relocated into their current space at 501 First Street between Commercial Drive and Highway 101in Seaside! Blue Bottle Coffee began serving gourmet espresso drinks such as Blendscience ($4) featuring roasts from both beans(Pumpkin Spice Latte with pumpkin puree or Caramel Bean Latte with caramel sauce)and creamsicles($5)! These drinks were unique because they featured fresh grounds roasted each day!!! In 1997, Peet's opened up their present space at 501 First Street between Commercial Drive and Interstate 5!! Peet's began servingianstyle coffees such as Pumpkin Spice Latte ($4) featuring pumpkin puree or Caramel Bean Latte with caramel sauce!), Hot Cocoa Sulphur Springs ($2/$3), Crunchie Cookies (croissant-doughnut hybrid combining croissant doughnuts filled with sugar cookie dough),eclectic sandwiches including roast beef on rye or chicken salad sandwich on whole wheat bread topped with blue cheese dressing&&& More recently... Lavazza has opened up an inside spot inside Costco Next Door allowing customers access to Lavazza Coffees while supplies last!!! Lavazza begins servinggourmet espresso drinks such as Red Velvet Mocha latte (#$5), Chocolate Palo Montejo Spiced Tea#$6) featuring organic fair trade cocoa beans sourced from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms*,Lavazza Dark Roast blend originates from Italy*;and finally...Chocolate Milk Stout #$7)! It wasn't until 1853 that an actual village called Seaside developed with a post office, store, and hotel. In 1907, Casino Beach became known as "the best spot on earth" for people looking for activities such as swimming, fishing, sunbathing and snorkeling because it offered all these things at one place while also being within walking distance of casinos like Harrah's Las Vegas Resort & Casino and Caesar's Palace Hotel & Casino. The first airship reached Los Angeles Harbor from San Francisco Bay on September 8th 1915 by way of Catalina Island when American millionaire Pan American Airways Flight No., AA 714 took off from Oceanside Airport with 12 passengers aboard including future President Franklin D. Roosevelt; he disembarked at Pier 21 near where luxury yachts now dock during high season The year 1915 was significant for another reason too: it marked the beginning of World War I which lasted until November 11th 1918 Also that year saw Prohibition come into effect in California making smuggling difficult but not impossible so many people chose to set up businesses alongside this popular spot instead By 1922 there were over 100 businesses operating here including 20 banks with over $2 million in assets each! Today much more has changed since then with over 30 businesses now open alongwith dozens more condos/apartments available some right next door! With all this new development coming down shoreline Seaside has seen an increase in traffic as well as crime rates reaching new heights recently however efforts are currently underway to address some of these issues

Many people from around the area flocked to the new goldfields, and Seaside quickly became known as the "City of Gold." The town flourished during this time, and many buildings were built to accommodate the influx of people. Many businesses opened their doors during this time, including a bank, a tannery, a merchants' guildhall, and even an opera house. The city also saw its first real-life census in 1838; that year, Seaside had a population of 1392 residents. By 1860, Seaside had grown to over 2200 residents. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, Seaside experienced several significant growth spurts. In 1905 it enacted its first zoning ordinance; this helped to create more restrictions on development in the town center. In 1916, businessman Julius Kapp founded Kapp's Brewery in nearby Carlsbad; this helped to revive interest in Portsmouth Avenue in Seaside. And later that decade, entrepreneur Harry Singer opened Singer's Clothing Store on Main Street – one of the town's earliest successes story. Throughout its history, Seaside has been home to many notable individuals: Edward Hennessey (founder of Hennessey heir Apparel), Harry Singer (entrepreneur who reopened Singer's Clothing Store after World War II), Julius Kapp (founder of Kapp's Brewery),Edward Greenough (senior partner at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co.), Alice Morse Carruth (early feminist author and poet), Edwin Starr(actor), Adolphus Busch (the father of beer).
