There are two coffee roasters in Seaside, California that have been around for over 50 years. Hansen's Coffee has been roasted here since the early 1960s, and it is still a family business today. Jared and his wife Kirsten started the business as a small shop on Third Street in Seaside. They roast high-quality beans specifically for their customers, and they continue to do so even now that they have a large café inside their shop. A couple of miles down Third Street from Jared's shop is another coffee house called The Coffee House. It was opened in 1978 by brothers Rick and Ricki Brouwer, who were also the owners of an ice cream parlor next door. The Coffee House became popular for its fresh java options, its extensive collection of art books on loan from the Los Angeles County Library, and its cooperative atmosphere—all of which contributed to its longevity as a business. The Coffee House remains open today (albeit with smaller hours) and offers drip or espresso drinks made with high-quality beans from both Hansen's and J&K's roasts. It is also home to one of the oldest continuous retail stores in town—the store began selling items like hairbands, t-shirts, postcards, and local produce back when Seaside was little more than a small fishing village surrounded by agricultural fields.

This event helped start what would eventually become Indonesia’s largest coffee company- Darussalam Berhad (DAR). The Indonesian National Revolution (1925-1928) led to widespread social turmoil and a rise in prostitution throughout Indonesian society. As a result, many people turned to coffee as their main source of sustenance during these difficult times. Since 1945, however, Indonesian coffees have been carefully cultivated and processed using traditional methods that deliver high quality results each time
