John Martin and Darlene Meier started working together at Friends of The Environment in 1976. Their first product was an espresso called “Lake Arrowhead” which quickly became a favorite among locals and tourists alike. They continued to produce this unique espresso until they decided to open their own business in 1978 under the name Lake Arrowhead Coffee Company. John Martin passed away in 2007, but his legacy lives on through his son John Martin Jr., who continues to run the company today with his wife Kathy (who also works at Lake Arrowhead). The history of Seaside dates back to 1875 when it was founded as a small seaport on San Diego’s shoreline by entrepreneur A.J. Beyer and his brother-in-law Augustus Chapman Crane. Beyer named it after his mother’s birthplace—the town called Swansea in Wales—and set about developing what is now downtown Seaside into an important commercial center for goods exported from Southern California and points northward. In 1902 a fire destroyed most ofBeyer’s business but he rebuilt it within two years and renamed it Harbor City after himself and Harborspoon Brewery which he built adjacent to the harbor. By 1909 Harbor City had become one of America's leading ports with its own navy Yard that handled both merchant shipping and naval supplies arriving from Asia. In 1915 Isadora Duncan opened her first store in what is now Macy's department store on Broadway Street between First Street South and Second Street North. Duncan became one of America's most popular authors with her novels set around seaside towns such as Naples (Italy) where she lived during World War I; Kingston ( Jamaica), where she resided during Prohibition; Point Reyes Station ( CA), where she wrote her book "The Wade sisters" based on life experiences spent near San Francisco Bay; Salinas ( CA), home to Duncan's second bookstore establishment called "The Book Barn"; Oceanside ( CA), home to another bookstore chain known as Jewelry Mart; Dana Point (CA), home to another chain known as Gossamer Mall; Huntington Beach(CA), home to yet another chain known as TGI Fridays'; Santa Barbara(CA), home to yet another chain know as JCPenney
