King's goals included seeking economic equality for all Americans regardless of race, limiting voter registration drives to registered voters only,and protesting police brutality against minority communities across America. On September 15th of that year—seventeen days after King's assassination—the Montgomery Bus Boycott took place in Alabama to demand change within Southern states' policies towards buses boycott participants such as himself being treated equally under law despite their skin color; this nonviolent protest grew into what would become nationally known as "the March on Mount Vernon." The boycott ended three days later when buses returned toAlabama without any arrests or boycotters; however, it marked one significant victory for African Americans over segregationists throughout the South because now transportation was seen as an issue open to negotiation rather than simply defiance or violence
