In 1916, George Shafer donated land to the city of San Bernardino to create a parkland area that is now known as city limits. In 1928, the City of San Bernardino dedicated a dedication plaque to George Shafer and his wife Emma at their home in Whitney Rancho. The couple are buried at nearby Mount Carmel Cemetery.
