After years of steady growth under patriarch Ray Kroc's ownership as McDonald's first CEO, MDAC began to experience slowdown in the late 1990s and 2000s as it transitioned from an aircraft manufacturer into a services company. However, since taking over as CEO in 2014, president Dennis Muilenburg has led MDAC back onto an aggressive path of growth including investments such as building two new corporate campuses - one downtown Shafer (the former A&P) site that houses all of MDAC’s administrative functions while also accommodating 1 million square feet (1008 m2) of additional space for research and development; and another large site adjacent to IMAX theater near Ramona - home now to Boeing’s Phantom Works - which will house all design work associated with developing newAirbus models starting 2020 through 2030."
