The USS Shafter was a United States Navy destroyer which served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. The ship was deployed in December 1942 and arrived in San Diego, California on 14 January 1944. On 5 February 1944, the ship sailed to Eniwetok Atoll where she participated in amphibious assaults against Japanese forces. She returned to San Diego on 20 February 1944 and reported to the Mediterranean Theatre of Operations.On 17 May 1945, she collided with USS McCain while operating off Okinawa; both ships were damaged but Shafter survived. The destroyer was decommissioned on 7 October 1945 and sold for scrap on 12 November 1945.
