On July 28, 1814, Hawkins sighted land off the coast of California while sailing Northeastward; he called this land "Australia" because it looked similar to an old map he had seen that showed Africa as an island surrounded by water! The first European settlers in North America arrived about this time too- primarily Englishmen looking for new land to colonize after their expulsion from England during the Napoleonic Wars. By 1830, more than 25 million people lived in North America- almost all of whom were Americans! Coffee became popular as a beverage among these settlers because it was introduced into North America at a time when other countries were still trying to discover new continents and sources of food or minerals! One reason why coffee became so popular was its low price point compared to other beverages such as wine or beer! After gaining popularity as a beverage throughout North America, tea (also spelled teas) beganto achieve some levelof popularity in Europe during the late 18th century thanks mainly to Queen Victoria's support for her son Prince Albert's efforts towards economic development throughout Europe! Tea quickly gained favor due to its traditional fermentation process which allowed it lengthy shelf life without spoiling unlike wines or Spirits which could spoil within hours if not properly refrigerated!

It is a large, deep body of water that covers an area from 3 to 5 square miles (8 to 16 square kilometers). The first human beings known to live in or around Shasta Lake were Native Americans who hunted game near its mouth during pre-historic times. When white men discovered wine grapes growing wild on hills overlooking Shasta Valley in 1868, they began harvesting them and shipping them back home to Europe where they became popular drinkings pleasures for European nobility and their noble families. In 1898, John Cranch founded Northern California’s first vineyard at Dry Creek Vineyards west of today’s Highway 299 near present-day Sacramento City College campus; dry creek also yielded some famous red wines such as Chateau Margaux and Riesling that reached high profile international competitions including gold medals at various wine festivals throughout history until recently when quality control measures were tightened following detections of harmful bacteria associated with winemaking processes worldwide (Wang et al., 2016). By 1888, land surrounding what is now Shasta Lake had been claimed by more than 20 tribes representing all regions inhabited by Native Americans eastward from Banff National Park: Hupa/Yuba/Avery Hills Indian Tribe (northwest corner), Siskiyou Indians (southwest corner), Modoc Indians (central region), Maidu/Umpqua Tribe (eastern region), Yinai Yokuts tribe (northern edge), Klamath River Nativesgruppe (= Lower Klamath group) (= previous Lower Klamath group) (+ several bands) (- several bands) (+ numerous others) comprising more than 350 individual nations or groups inhabiting over 6200 square miles ([24] sq km). From these beginnings until white settlement began nearby in 1887 only three small parcels remained undeveloped within what would become today’s Shasta County: Rancho Seco del Norte which lay east-northeast Of modern day Redding; Rancho Seco del Sur which lies northwest Of modern day Visalia; and Rancho Trinity situated northeast Of present day Madera Falls Village.) In 1887 George Hearst leased 960 acres (~27 km²)[25] adjacent to what would eventually become today's downtown Hayward with plans for an irrigation system consisting mainly of underground piping systems bringing freshwater Supply from Bearsville Reservoir via East Butte Creek into Shasta Lake beneath his new mill complex(s).[26][27][28][29] With Hearst's enterprising business model came other entrepreneurs followed suit throughout much northern California during this period such as brothers Edward Moulton Macy[30][31][32]and Washington Macy who purchased 812 acres (~30 km²)[33][34], part site OF San Francisco Bay Area's largest open field agricultural tract laid down between 1795-1846,[35]called "Evariste Cotton Field" after French Missionary Edouard Evariste de la Brebis who surveyed it circa 1800-1820[36]; Don Pedro Menéndez y Valdés granted irrigated land comprising 640 parcels (~22 km²)[37],[38], called "Las Vegas Valley", lying immediately southeast OF Bear Valley Dam on Tuolumne River soon after its construction in 1862.[39] A few weeks later prospectors discovered oil shale deposits on neighboring lands bordering Bear Valley Reservoir while surveys were being made for drilling rigs necessary for developing this incredible find,[40][41]. On October 12th 1885 two men named George Hearst[42](born December 12th 1830 - died May 14th 1905)[43])and James Wickersham landed their ship SS Californian off shore early morningnearshore probably intendingto explore potential oil shales but instead found coal seam methane gas fields! They quickly realized this too could be valuable so Wickersham put his ship back ashore toworkingcoal seams he had already drilled!!
