The first people to live here were Juan Bautista Cabrillo and his group who came ashore on October 14th, 1769. They were looking for a new place to settle down and they found this area very favorable because it had ample grazing land and plenty of water resources. From here on out there would be many families that settled here because this spot offered them so much opportunity: It had good soil, lots of water supplies, plenty of timber (for building), fishing spots, etc.). In 1824 Antonio Canseco set out from Santa Fe with his family to find a better life for them all when he learned about gold mines up in Nevada Ridge country. Heading west he reached what is now known as Sierra Madre after finding some ruins that looked like an old Spanish settlement called La Ciudad de los Reyes (The City Of The Kings). After exploring these areas he decided that this could be their new homebase and started construction on his house which we know today as la Casa del Rio Seco or Rancho Simón Bolanos (the Rancho Santiago Bolanos). It wasn't until 1830 when Governor Manuel Nieto heard about gold potential at Los Olivos south of San Miguel de Allende that he finally gave sanction to building a road through these hills in order to bring miners into Fresno County so they wouldn't have to go all the way downriver each time they dug something valuable out! Sierra Madre is a small town in central California, United States. It is located on the banks of the San Joaquin River and is surrounded by the Mexican state of Baja California. The name "Sierra Madre" comes from Spanish meaning "the mountain range." The first Europeans to visit Sierra Madre were José Francisco de la Rúa, captain of an American ship captained by Gaspar de Portolà, and his men in 1769. They named the hillocks in what is now Sierra Madre after General Ventura de Croix, commander of troops fighting against Spain in North America during the Seven Years' War. In 1824, Francis Drake sighted land to the south and named it Sierra Nevada after King George III of England as reimbursement for this country's financial support during that war. Queen Victoria later renamed it Baja California because she was not sure if it was part of Mexico or if there was a separate country called Baja California. In 1846, Juan Manuel Saenz founded San Miguel Arcángel on Elk Grove Road about 12 miles southwest of present-day Sierra Madre. He was followed by other pioneers including Antonio Vallejo and Héctor Murtagh who all claimed land grants from Mexico City for their respective settlements. Some sources say that only Vallejo received a grant that actually extended over almost 2 square miles (5 km²). Most settlers arrived before 1848 when gold discoveries began to be made in nearby Butte County near Sacramento. The discovery caused such a rush to find minerals that many grants were not issued until much later; some expired while others were sold at public auction through agents who acted as middlemen between Claimant and Grantee On July 6th 1850, Avis Peralta discovered gold at Sutter's Mill while prospecting for silver near present-day Oroville Village east of Highway 508 just north of current-day Eureka Valley National Wildlife Refuge boundary line Newspaper articles announcing this find appeared on various pages throughout Northern California; however news about the great gold discovery soon spread beyond these boundaries due to reports coming back from travelers along Ulysses S Grant Boulevard today which leads into Yosemite National Park . mules had been used extensively at Sutter's Mill since 1840s but no one knew how much ore could be mined from such small area so large quantities had to be hauled offroad over Paiute Hills .
