The United States Air Force has been providing service to the people of California since 1941. The Air Force's history in Signal Hill, CA began with the establishment of an airfield in 1942. This field was known as Camp Grant Army Air Terminal. It served as a training ground forAAF pilots and bombers during World War II. After the war, Camp Grant became an AF base and it served as a storage and disposal center for military aircraft after their missions ended. In 1958, AFB Signal Hill was established as a subordinate unit of AF Base Hawthorne in Riverside County. In 1967, AFB Signal Hill became an operational command structure within theAF and it assumed control over all USAF activities at Hawthorne. In 1991, AFB Signal Hill celebrated its 50th anniversary. During this time, many changes were made to the facility such as the addition of a new command post and headquarters building which sat on 8 acres on Signal Hill Road in downtown Signal Hill. Additionally, two new runways were constructed- one measuring 2,500 feet long and wide while the other measuring 1,600 feet long and wide-. These new runways helped to accommodate increased traffic at ABH during wartime years but also allowed for more recreational opportunities for civilians living near ABH including fishing trips from signal hill docks! The Aldrin– Armstrong Space Race Museum opened in 1992 inside of AFB signal hill with artifacts from both the space race andOperation Clandestine! Today, AFB signal hill is home to numerous units within the USAF including the 16th Fighter Wing (Badger Wing), 131st Intelligence Squadron (10/1), 513th Missile Squadron (Reinforcement Bomber Wing) and 471st Combat Aviation Brigade (Air National Guard). With its diverse operations capabilities across multiple regions throughout Southern California it is no wonder that AFB SignalHill has been an important part of US military aviation history!

Signal Hill is a small town in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of the city of San Bernardino and is bordered by Riverside to the east, Florence to the north, and Ontario to the west. The name "Signal Hill" comes from an early Spanish mission called Rancho San José de la Purísima Concepción which was established in 1781. The mission served as a center for trade with Mission Valley and other Missions in central California. In 1819, when Mexico gained independence from Spain, it became part of Mexican territory and Signal Hill became part of its territory. In 1845, US President 44th President James K Polk ordered General John Custer's army under General Zachary Taylor to cross the Mojave Desert into California duringthe Mexican-American War. The troops were halted near what is now Signal Hill because they could not find any water sources that would allow them to march further than 30 miles (48 km). When they finally reached Immanuel College on July 12th they were met by pro-Mexico forces under General Antonio López de Santa Anna who drove them back across Nevada desert towards Sacramento where they disbanded on July 15th after achieving little else than strategic advantage over their adversaries. A post office was opened at Signal Hill on December 6th 1840 by Colonel George Biddle after he arrived in Los Angeles with his brigade from Tulare County
