The first military installation in what is now California was Camp Pendleton, located on the southern coast of San Diego County, in 1846. In 1847, the Army established Fort Yuma on the present-day east side of San Bernardino County. In 1912 the easternmost farmhouse on Main Street caught fire resulting in $1 worth of damage being done to the house only minutes after it had been set alight by an unknown person or persons unknown during what turned out to be an average day for wildfires around this area; also adding insult to injury was when insurance companies refused claims from people living outside of Signal Hill because they did not understand why someone would set fire to their property even though most residents were inside at the time!
