The Air Force deploys a gift to Simi Valley every year. This year’s gift is the F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet. The jets first flew in 1988 and have been used in many conflicts around the world. They are now retired but remain part of the Air Force’s inventory. This year, theSimi Valley Chamber of Commerce organized a military appreciation event for the troops stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in south Simi Valley. More than 100 people from local businesses and organizations came to enjoy refreshments, fly-on-the-wall experiences with the jets and meet members of USAF Special Operations Forces. Theoretically, any individual or organization could provide funds for this type of deployment, but it is always fun when the community comes together to support those serving our country!

December 5, 1959 – The United States Air Force deployed a gift to the Simi Valley community on December 5, 1959. The gift was a Perspex model airplane.
Simi Valley, California is a small town located in Ventura County, California on the outskirts of Los Angeles. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. The land that makes up Simi Valley was settled by Native Americans at least 10,000 years ago and as early as 1821, cattle were being driven southward from Rancho San Buenaventura in Ventura County to be sold in the Simi Hills region. In 1846, when Mexico became independent from Spain, much of what is now Ventura County was acquired by Mexican nationals as part of their effort to gain ownership of all of California. One of these Mexicans, José Joaquín de Alvarado y Bacaqueros (1784-1853), purchased 640 acres (248 ha) near present day Simi Valley for $10 per acre ($640/ha). In 1850, George Hahnfeldt bought an additional 160 acres (60 ha) east of present day Simi Valley from José Joaquín de Alvarado y Bacaqueros for $20 per acre ($1,280/ha). This area would later become known as "Hahnfeldt's Ranch". A post office called Simi Valley was established in 1854 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1909. The first settler to arrive in what is now Simi Valley was John Waddell who arrived January 12th 1856 on horseback from rancho San Francisco del Norte over Santa Anita Pass. Waddell named his new place Agua Caliente after his discovery on January 14th near Mount Wilson where he found water so hot that he could drink it without getting sick. The name may also have been inspired by Mount Wilson which although appearing cold during winter months had a surface temperature about 120 degrees Fahrenheit (). The settlement growth around Agua Caliente continued with Dominguez & Son purchasing additional land between November 1st and December 16th 1856 for $120 per acre ($4,880/ha). This added 4 square miles (10 km²) to the community site giving it its current total size at 24 square miles (70 km²). As more people came into town and began developing citrus crops such as oranges and limes along with sheep pastures and other ranch holdings within easy access to markets throughout Southern California they needed a location closer to city services but still able to maintain their rural lifestyle which included country clubs and hunting outposts.. A committee appointed by Governor Pico Ibarra recommended that Ventura County erect a gallows so hanged criminals could beDisplayed publicly within easy driving distance insteadof having them transported hundreds or even thousands of miles away through rugged terrain

The USAF bestowed the firstAir Force Christmas Tree on then Lieutenant Colonel James “Pat” Buchanan, Commander of 8th Fighter Wing at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. The tree was donated by General Electric Co., and was dedicated on December 5th.

There are also several universities located in Simi Valley including UC Davis, UCLA, and USC.
