Soon after, other groups began arriving in search of gold and other minerals in this region; some brought over slaves while others built small towns around Mission San Buenaventura (now known as Agoura Hills). The town's first white settler was Jens Hansen who arrived in 1892 followed by his wife Maren Rasmussen (1888-1955) and their two children Johan (1901-1988), Lilli (born 1907)and Harald Nielsen Jr.(1909-1981). In 1915 Hansen’s son Haraldsen took over running the business together with his three sisters Mette Kjærgaard , Kirstine Nilsdatter . When World War II broke out in 1939 all local businesses were destroyed or taken over by the military for munitions production including Jens Hansen’s store which continued operations until 1949 when it closed down completely due to wartime regulations forbidding any types of civilian commerce within 5 miles of Japanese troops stationed at Vandenberg AFB . A few weeks later Santa Anita Racetrack opened its gates offering horse racing as well as jobs for local hands who worked inside during off hours The movie industry also hit Simi Valley hard during this time being situated just outside Hollywood touchstone Universal Studios making movies like* “Rio Bravo” “The Godfather” etc..
