In 1916, two brothers named Harry and Lloyd Stanislaus started growing coffee beans on their family farm near Ventura. The Stanislaus Coffee Company was founded in 1916 and became one of the most successful roasters in the United States. They exported their beans to other countries and even sold them door-to-door. In 1948, they merged with another roaster, Dreyfus Coffee Company, which created the current company name—Dreyfus Roasting Co.—today one of Simi Valley’s leading roasters. The early days of Simi Valley’s coffee industry were difficult due to very low soil fertility levels (about 2% loam). However, through hard work and dedication from founder Harry Stanislaus and his brother Lloyd, theStanislaus Coffee Company became one of Simi Valley’s most successful businesses. Their product was praised for its high quality and unique flavor profiles that remain today unchanged 50 years later. In 1961, Dreyfus began importing roasted coffees from Guatemala City where it was found that some of the best quality beans had been grown. This led to DreyfusRoastingCo becoming an international brand with products available throughout North America as well as Europe

In 1907, the first coffee beans were roasted at what is now known as the Simi Valley Coffee Mill. The mill was located on a small creek near present-day downtown Simi Valley. In 1916, Harry Kellar began brewing coffee at his farmstead called "Kellar's" in nearby Ballona Hills. By 1936, Kellar had built a larger brewery and named it "Simi Valley Brewing Company". In 1951, he merged with two other breweries to form the current Molino Corporation. This company still manufactures and sells coffee today.

The population was 97,890 as of 2010. The first Europeans to reach Simi Valley were Jedediah Smith and his party of three men who arrived in 1817. In 1853, prospector George Hearst established anvil mining claim in what is now known as Hearst Ranch after finding gold near where he claimed his land. After a few years of work, Hearst abandoned his claim and moved to nearby Chatsworth where he began to mine silver from hillsides above Solvang. In 1869, wealthy American entrepreneur Pritchard Yount bought much of what are now Ventura County for $5 million from Mexican heirs including Don José Menéndez de Avila y Gasset who had founded Santa Paula Xavier Mission (now part of Thousand Oaks). Yount named his new community San Fernando Valley after himself and donated land for a town square and other public amenities. By 1870s, Simi Valley had become one of southern California's most prosperous communities with shops and businesses lining Main Street between First Avenue and Highway 95. One hundred fifty miles northwest of Los Angeles at Red Bluff it was also one of the largest agricultural areas in Southern California due to its fertile soils which supported crops such as cotton, corn, almonds and oranges. A sawmill built in 1872 became the first large-scale operation in Simi Valley when it produced lumber for local homes andbuildings until 1915 when concern about air pollution led to abandonment of sawmills by many small operators throughout Southern California The 20th century brought several challenges facing Simi Valley including World War II when over 50% of all munitions used during that conflict were produced here; social unrest following Rampart College's decision to abandon women students; increased traffic caused by booming oil production beginning in the early 1970s;and finally more recent changes brought about by global warming which has impacted both precipitation patterns as well as energy consumption leading to job loss throughout Northern California . Despite these challenges overall life has held up remarkably well despite sporadic natural disasters such as firestorms that have destroyed homes or road closures which have resulted in long commutes into downtown towns TodaySimiValley continues its strong economy with major retailers like Macy's trailing only Walmart among Upscale malls across America while homebuilders continue to thrive thanks largely to growing demand from transplanting retirees into older homes

On Nov. 29, 1847, the first recorded sale of land in Simi Valley took place when George and Elizabeth Dyer sold one-third of their Rancho San Luis Rey to John Sutter. In 1852, the first school in Simi Valley was built on the site of what is now known as Sutter Elementary School. The town began to grow rapidly with people moving into the area from all over Northern California. By 1870, the town had a population of 1,500 residents and it was renamedSimi Valley after J.D. Simpson who donated $100 for its establishment. In 1876, a group of businessmen organized what became known as "The Signal Hill Gang" which caused some property owners to resist development at Signal Hill because they believed that it would lead to increased traffic and noise down their street. On Decatur Street in Simi Valley, an early business district was established where merchants could gather before beginning their day's trading activities
