Simi Valley is a city in Ventura County, California, United States. The population was 66,546 at the 2010 census. It is located in the Simi Hills region of Ventura County. The first people to live in what is now Simi Valley were the Ohlone Native Americans who hunted and gathered wild plants and animals here. The area was first explored by Europeans in 1769 when trails led from Monterey to Petaluma passed through this region. Rancho Simi was granted to Manuel Nieto in 1847, one of many land grants given out during Mexican–American War era. In 1881, John Sutter founded Sutter's Mill on the banks of the River San Joaquin near present-day Vacaville; his mill brought new life to this area and made it a popular place for farming and ranching. By 1900, there were over 10 dairy farms and 1 gas station operating hereabouts. After World War II ended, many American soldiers returned home from Europe and wanted their families to join them as they settled down in various parts of Southern California. One group of these GI’s formed the nucleus that would form what became known as “The Silicon Valley Group” or SVG for short. They bought or leased thousands of acres (acres) of farmland around Santa Clara County until they had a total area of . This growth allowed for more housing development (especially along Interstate 5), which increased traffic congestion on I-5 as well as adjacent streets leading into downtown Santa Clara County; thus providing impetus for Proposition 20 which created Route 101/I-5 bypass project in 1965 connecting Santa Clara with Ventura Counties eastward until then only accessible via Route 80/Flamingo Drive southward which improved access but also created additional parking problems within downtownSanta Clara County government buildings In 1978 Don Slater purchased acreage adjoining Highway 16 southhingeing Mission Bayou just eastof Yorba Linda Airport from Pacific Gas & Electric Company; later that year he donated much of this property including an airport hangar named after him (now called Slater Airport) to Cal Poly Pomona University where students could use it for aviation studies purposes only; this lot has since been developed into one of Ventura County's most valuable neighborhoods – Industry Hill Donny designed The Donny House on this property - one example being: "A two story wood frame house with a front gable roof clad with asbestos shingle". The house was built circa 1964-1966 by Leland Smithson Associates Incorporated under contract from Donny & Associates architects pursuant to plans provided by Leland Smithson himself Slater also donated land adjacent thereto bounded by Speedway Boulevard north (west side), Highway 16 west (east side), Slaters Road southeast corner intersection with Foothill Boulevard northeast corner - all now part of Industry Hill development

The Simi Valley area was first settled by the Ohlone people in the late 1800s. The Ohlone were a Native American tribe that lived in what is now Ventura County and southern San Bernardino County. In 1851, the land was granted to George C. Marshall, who named it for his great-uncle, Isaac Simpson. In 1865, California became a state and Marshall's grant was renamed Simi Valley after theSimi Hills in northern California. In 1957, Simi Valley became part of Los Angeles County and began receiving city services. However, many of its residents kept their own homes and businesses until the early 1990s when they joined forces with other cities in a Move to Keep San Fernando Valley Alive campaign to keep their community alive and make it an economic center for Southern California. Today, Simi Valley is home to over 100 families who maintain their traditions of agriculture, country living, arts and culture as well as world-class schools like Claremont McKenna College and Pomona College.
In 1853, the first post office in Simi Valley was established. The town of Simi Valley was incorporated on November 15, 1854. On November 1, 1865, it became a city. The first mayor was William Fenton and the first recorder was John P. Dickson. In 1916, the city annexed the neighboring towns of Atherton and Santa Paula.
