Simi Valley, CA is a small town in the Simi Hills area of Ventura County, California. The population was 17,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. The name "Simi Valley" comes from two pieces of Rancho San Vicente Land grant land that were adjacent to each other on both sides of what is now Simi Creek: "Valley" and "Valley View". The first Europeans to visit this area were prospectors who discovered gold in these hills in 1848. At that time, much of present-day Ventura County was still part of Mexico. In 1853, American Colonel John C. Fremont established himself as a military governor in central California with jurisdiction over all the Simi Hills and parts of Mono County including Ventura and Santa Paula Counties including Simi Valley proper. In 1855 he founded the city of Los Angeles on land grants given him by Mexican President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. Santa Clara county was formed from part of Mono County in 1861 when it was split off from Ventura County to make way for larger Ulysses S. Grant's new countrywide empire after Mexico's defeat at the Battle of Palo Alto against General Zachary Taylor's army during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). A few years later, due to an agricultural depression caused by low prices for roundup cattle caused by drought conditions following winter wheat planting campaigns elsewhere in California, many farmers abandoned their fields around Simi Valley and moved out into rural areas such as Carpinteria and La Crescenta where prices were higher for feedstock supplies available closer to markets outside Southern California than they were back home near Vallejo on Pacific Coast Highway 1A whichconnects inland with downtown Los Angeles via I-5 about 25 miles eastward from where I live today... Today there are very few people living within driving distance or even within walking distance (2 hours)of any major center anywhere outside Northern & Western LA except Venice Beach & Malibu beach which have been growing rapidly since 1990 when we added Universal Studios Hollywood directly onto our southern border making it easier for people who work long hours between those places to get some much needed exercise! Irvine et al 2001 pgs 96-99 I grew up just south of Simi Valley on a family farmstead surrounded by rich redwood forest until my father passed away suddenly at age 58 just shy of his 60th birthday - one year after our last crop had grown tall enough so that he could see it being harvested despite being 83 years old! Shortly thereafter my mother also passed away suddenly at 62 after spending her entire adult life working hard raising six kids while also caring for 4 elderly grandparents plus 2 invalid siblings all alone!! To add insult to injury our immediate neighbors bought most everything we had+2 stories worth more than we ever paid+1 truckload more worth whatever they’d been selling because they thought “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” but needless to say we never did anything productive with either acreage or tools (except felling trees!) We sold off all our livestock except 3 cows/4 horses/1 dog before moving back inside when things got better but even then only because there wasn’t anything else close by that would do +nearly 20%igradedfrom what usedto be wild oak woods downwind where green growth happens year round now completely stripped bare thanks mainly to fire suppression measures instituted specifically here 50 years ago!!! If you go north along US 101 past Oxnard you reach Antelope VALLEY VIEW which has over 100 homes built right next door on top OF ANTELOPE VALLEY VIEW without knowing it! Once you get out beyond SR 1205 eastern end towards Thousand Oaks your view changes totally again becoming rolling hills covered largely with chaparral although there may be scattered residences or businesses intermingling here and there across wide open spaces mostly desert scrubland etc... Views change gradually nearer populated areas tending increasingly toward mountains although sometimes views remain essentially rural if not entirely so depending upon prevailing winds direction & weather conditions NOTE: There are no valleys whatsoever adjacent thereto other than HWY 101 itself (& a couple small creek valleys nearby)... simivalleyvillage dot com

Simi Valley is a small city in Ventura County, California, United States. The population was 20,651 at the 2010 census. It has a land area of 34 square miles (88square kilometers). The Simi Valley Unified School District serves all students in grades Pre-K through 12. The Simi Valley region was first settled by Native Americans who hunted and gathered wild plants and animals that they found in the valleys below. In 1851, Capt. John Sutter discovered gold on the Simi Hills, making him one of the first people to reach California. He named these hills Simi because he found some shells near theValley Creek settlement. In 1871, General George Armstrong Custer's Seventh Cavalry stopped at Fort Wadsworth on their way back from an expedition against the Mojave Desert raiders. One of Custer's officers, Lt. Colonel John Pemberton, stayed at Fort Wadsworth as part of his unit and became friends with local resident Jens Jensen who ran a hotel and restaurant called "The Palace". Jensen also shared his goods with soldiers on their journey back home. Eventually, Jensen developed into one of Santa Barbara County's leading business men and served as its mayor from 1951 to 1957 and 1959 to 1963
The Simi Valley, California area is located in the Santa Clara Valley of California and was first populated by the Ohlone people. The region was part of Alta California before it was acquired by Spanish America. In 1848, the U.S. government purchased land in the valley from Mexico for $3 million and began to build Fort Tejon, which became a major military base during the Mexican-American War. In 1851, General Mariano Castro founded a small town in the valley named after him, Castroville. The town quickly grew into a regional center and was one of several towns established along San Joaquin Creek during this time period as gold seekers descended on what is now called Northern California to find new veins of gold. By 1850, Simi Valley had a population of around 10,000 people and cigar manufactories were being built near present day Ventura County. After Californias admission into Union as part of the United States in 1850, much growth took place in Simi Valley due to increased trade with other parts of America and Europe through railroads that developed in this time period.
