As businesses grew larger throughout the 1920s and 1930s (), so did social activities within SolanaBeach (); such as dances at locales like Pacific Palisades (), baseball games at nearby Scripps Ranch (), walks along scenic beaches such as Santa Monica Boulevard () or North Point Drive ()); even Farmer's Markets were held outdoors during summer months (). However during World War II much activity stopped due to wartime restrictions; however many businesses did open up again afterwards including several engineering firms that supplied military equipment(). Additionally many residents served in the war effort providing meals for troops stationed near our city (); such as driver James Eagan who drove trucks full supplies to ammunition caches around Los Angeles County (). SolanasBeach experienced significant growth following World War II with more people coming through town looking for employment opportunities.,[ citation needed ] but also some decreased activity due to increased competition from neighbouring Huntington Beach stemming from newly developed housing developments [] . However this change didn't last long as soon after Pearl Harbor U-2 pilot Francis Gary Powers downed AmericanEnsign intelligence gathering plane over Orange County,, many people wanting their say about local politics started joining protests against MacArthur’s rule...] In 1957 SolanasBeach voters raised enough issues with then Mayor Don Sorenson’s administration not give him another term; instead he appointed City Manager Harry Kapp [] . This led to further unrest when Kapp took control for unknown reasons outside of mayoral appropriations [] . Finally upon City Manager Harry Kapp’s departure in 1961() There was a power struggle between then Mayor Donald Sorenson who wanted stricter zoning controls opposed by outgoing City Manager Harry Kapp who favored less regulation][ citation needed ]. This led to riots which ensued with police firing live rounds into crowds [] . Ultimately all conflicts climaxing when then-Mayor Donald Sorenson announced his candidacy for Governor against incumbent Jerry Brown [].
