Soledad, California is a small town located in the San Joaquin Valley on the banks of the Sacramento River. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It has been called "The Coffee Capital of the World" for many years because of its unique and high-quality coffee beans. In 1875, Solomon Goldsmith and his brother Esau founded a small bean farm in Soledad County. They were early pioneers in this region and began to produce quality coffee beans. In 1898, they became partners with George Pease and opened their first store in downtown Soledad. Today, our company continues to be owned and operated by our family members who have been involved in it since its inception. The name Soledad is Spanish, meaning "sunny place." The town of Soledad was founded in 1849 by the Mexican immigrants who had come to California. The town was named for San Francisco's sister city, La Paz, because the two towns were located on opposite sides of a deep canyon. The first permanent residents of Soledad were Missionaries of Jesus who arrived in 1851. The mission buildings and land around the town were first used for storage then as a cattle ranch. In 1856, the State of California granted authorization to build a school in what is now downtownSoledad. A new building was built and classes began on October 17th,1856. Soledad became an official post-town in 1911 when it joined Riverside County. In 1916, Soledad became one of the original seventy-eight (78) citieships organized within Los Angeles County by Governor James Irvine pursuant to Section 4director General Order No. 1of December 15th 1915 which established county boundaries at their present outlines. A total population of over 100,000 people lived in Soledad during its early years; however this number gradually decreased as new subdivisions were developed and annexed into other municipalities throughout southern Los Angeles County during the late 19th century and early 20th century. By 1930 only about 3500 people remained living in Soledad proper while most of southern LA County had been annexed into other municipalities or combined with neighboring counties

In 1876, the city of Soledad was founded on a dry and sandy plain about northeast of what is now San Diego. The site had been used for farming since the time of the Puebloans and ranching by the early Mexican settlers. In 1881, when California became a state, Soledad was incorporated as a town. The first post office in Soledad opened in 1883. For many years, Soledad was known as "the little sister" to San Diego because it shared its downtown with that city's business district and had several churches and schools. However, as San Diego grew larger and more developed, so too did its need for services from a town with which it had relatively little connection. In 1916, when San Diego annexed much of Baja California Sur (now Mexico), Soledad lost its status as Town but continued to exist within the new jurisdiction. In 1924, when Interstate 15 bypassed downtown San Diego along present-day Winchester Boulevard, Supervisor John Sieving asked if he could convert one street into an expressway throughSoledad in order to move goods faster between his constituents' homes and businesses. This request was granted and I-15 became known as State Route 95 after passing through town center at milepost 95. One street east of I-15 became County Route 528 while another east became County Route 3127 (today's US 101). In 1988, when Interstate 5 crossed under I-15 again near Watsonville Junction this time Widening Interchange Project took place which improved traffic flow throughout both townships by widening 1/4 mile off either end of SR 95 from original 2 lanes wide to 4 lanes wide making it easier for drivers to merge onto I-5 without having to cross the busy interstate highwayTrivia: Although today onlySR 95 remains open between SR 528 & 3127 Avenues there once were 4 lanes
