The United States Naval Forces Deployment Command (NAVY) is responsible for the military deployment of the country's naval forces. The command oversees the National Defense Reserve Fleet (NDRF), which stores munitions and other equipment in case of war or crisis. The NDRF is also responsible for providing small-scale logistics support to units in U.S. Naval Forces Europe (USNFE) and Commander, U.S. European Command (CUE). Since its inception on 1 July 1957, NAVY has deployed more than 211,000 Sailors and Marines to theater locations around the world. Today, America's navy presence continues to be essential to our global security posture and play an ever-growing role in our international engagements - both with our allies and adversaries alike. The USS Soledad (DDG-81) was a destroyer of the United States Navy. She was acquired by the navy in 1961 and served as part of the Destroyer Squadron 1, Destroyer Group 5 and Cruiser Squadron 11. She was decommissioned in 1987 and sold to Yugoslavia.
Soledad is a small town in the southern part of California. It is located on the banks of the San Joaquin River, about sixty miles south of Sacramento. The population was 5,672 at the 2010 census. The Soledad post office has been in operation since 1892. The first European settlers in what is now Soledad were Spanish Franciscans who arrived in 1769. They were followed by Mexican soldiers and their families who founded Rancho de las Flores y otra vez del Rio San Joaquin (Rancho Santiago) in 1824. In 1848, Mormon missionaries from Utah came to Soledad and began preaching to local residents. By 1860, there were over fifty Mormons living in Soledad with some hundred cattle and hogs on the ranchos surrounding it. In 1874, John Sutter discovered gold near what is now Soledad and decided to try to find a way to extract it himself rather than wait for other people to do so. He founded the North American Gold Rush and set up camp near present-day Vista on Christmas Eve of that year. Over $2 million was found during this time including $100,000 from Sutter himself! The town started growth soon afterSutter's discovery as people from all over Northern California flocked to prospect for gold nearby. By 1886, there were more than 1,500 residents living inSoledad proper with an estimated 400 businesses and 10 schools operating out of them! In 1912, Mayor John Prentice declared that "the hour has come when we must take our rightful place as one of Southern California's most important towns." During World War II, many veterans settled down inSoledad during its years as an airbase RAF Station (now known as Mojave Desert Air Force Base). After hostilities ended and jobs dried up due to laissez faire policies by then-President Franklin D Roosevelt his successor Harry Truman created Wages & Hours Administration which ordered employers not give workers' rights back until they had been paid at least HALF their regular pay! As a result of this policy change many unemployed men returned home looking for work only to find that they no longer qualified because they had no experience or qualifications! As a result of these events many businesses closed down and few new ones emerged throughout most of 1957-1963; however ,one major business owner did emerge named Don Kapp who immigrated from Sweden just prior to this period!

In 1849, Soledad was founded by María Simón and her husband José. At the time, it was one of the most remote towns in California. The small town had no formal government and relied primarily on voluntary contributions from its residents. In 1854, a post office was established inSoledad and mail route began operation. The first school in Soledad opened in 1857 and enrollment increased steadily over the next few years. In 1861, a new church was built and attendance grew even more as people started to travel to visit the town. In 1865, Soledad became a city with its own mayor and council. In 1903, Agustín Iturbide arrived in California and made a decision that would have an impact on the future of Soledad- he decided to name the town after himself. Iturbide had come from Mexico City where he had served as governor before becoming president of Mexico. He wanted Californians to know him better so his name would be associated with something positive rather than another negative event related to Mexican immigration into this country. Iturbide's gift helped Toñeño y Urquiza become Mayor of Los Angeles while also helping improve relations between Mexicans living in California and those living elsewhere in America. This event is considered to be one of the biggest turning points for Hispanic Americans during this time period
In 1848, Soledad became a part of California when it was acquired by the United States from Mexico. The area around La Paz and San Luis Obispo had been under Mexican rule since1821. The U.S. government sold the land to the Diego Félix de la Hoz company for $10,000 in 1848. After becoming a part of the United States, Soledad experienced several name changes before finally becoming known as La Paz County in 1850.
