On October 1, 2009,Soledad coffee beans were roasted for the first time. The beans were grown in a small plot of land just outside of Soledad. The beans started as ground coffee and then were roasted in small batches. These small batches have helped to make Soledad one of the most important coffee-producing communities in California. In 1996, Antonio Manzano founded the Manzano Coffee Company in Soledad. This company began roasting coffee from seed and has since become one of the leading roasters in California. In 2006, Eduardo Garcia opened his own espresso shop called Cafe Eduardo Garcia which became a popular tourist spot for people looking for quality Italian-style espresso drinks. Today, Eduardo Garcia's café has over 30 locations across California and is considered one of the top 2 espresso shops in America.

In 1892, Soledad's first coffee was roasted in their home. In 1916, they opened the first commercial store in town. And in 1963, they became the first small batch roaster in California.

Soledad is a small town in California, located on the Kern River. The population was 4,689 as of 2010. It is part of the Kern County seat of Bakersfield. The Soledad post office opened on January 8, 1892, and was renamed to its current name on July 1, 1909. The town has been an agricultural center for many years and now consists primarily of citrus crops. The Soledad High School (now known as Alhambra) was built in 1926 and currently houses over 350 students from both public and private schools in grades 9-12. In 1916 Soledad had one store which closed due to lack of business during World War I; however, by 1919 there were two stores with a totalof 14 Businesses open including: nine grocery stores and six hardware stores. One can still walk into any one of these businesses today without having to leave the community! It should be noted that most businesses closed in this time period because drought struck the area hard after World War I; however, some small businesses did manage to survive like: the First National Bank (now Citizens Financial Group), Hitching Post Motels & Restaurants Inc., Fowler's Nursery & Garden Center (closed in 1984), plus several other smaller businesses that you might not know about today but were once very important to the local economy.

In 1848, the Mexican land grant of Rancho San Luis Potosi was given to Spanish-Mexican immigrant, Manuel Nieto. Nieto farmed the land until he sold it in 1858 to American prospector and cattle rancher George A. Smith for $4,000. In 1862, Smith founded the town of Soledad on what is now the southern edge of Pasadena County. The name "Soledad" was chosen because its backers had claimed that there were no such places as Soledad County or San Luis Potosi in Mexico. One local historian has written that "Soledad" represented a shift from traditional Hispanic naming practices: "before [the arrival of Mexicans], most people in this area called their places by their old Indian names (such as San Miguel de Allende), but after some time they began using Europeanized surnames (such as Sanchez). This change may have been prompted by social mores during the 1850s when Anglo Americans began moving into these areas." With its new community came new opportunities for growth and development. In 1865, Smith founded an agricultural fair which became a major tourist attraction for Soledad County residents and visitors alike. The fairgrounds remain a popular attraction today and are home to a wide variety of events including soccer games, rodeos, concerts and car shows. In 1915, Soledad became home to California's first state high school when Pasadena High School opened on Palmdale Avenue in what is now known as Science Park at Pasadena City Hall Annex Building #2. Today,Soledad continues to play host to many cultural events throughout the year including art exhibits and festivals

In 1848, prospectors discovered a salt mine in what is now Soledad County. The discovery led to the construction of a irrigation system and the growth of ranching and mining operations. The area was first named Mission San Gabriel, but upon its incorporation into California in 1850, it was renamed Soledad after General Antonio José de San Martín, who had fought in the Mexican-American War and helped found California.
